Default Tailgate LED button stopped working

Hey guys
So I left my tonneau cover open during a couple of snow/ice storms this past winter now I noticed the push button in my tailgate doesn't work to turn on/off the LED bed light, I need to physically use the dash button
Anybody else ever have this issue??

The bed switch is a common failure issue. It has noting to do with you leaving the tonneau cover open. Often when it fails it causes the bed lights to illuminate at random. Switch is a Motorcraft SW-7733.

Are you discussing the operation of the push button on outside of the TAILGATE or the push button on the driver-side bed wall?
52merc is correct these "push button" switches do go bad easily.

It can be a bit of a pain in the ***** to get the old one released and you will probably break the retainer tabs removing it. I know, I did. The new one pops in easily. Remove the driver side tail lamp for access.

If you have any mechanical ability at all, this is a DIY process.

Easy fix, but a PITA getting the old one out. Mine broke the trim ring piece prying it out. So when you purchase a new switch, get one that comes with the frame piece. I put anti corrosive in the plug during install, and flex coated afterword to keep the water out. They are like $15 at O'Reilly Auto.
