Tailgate Ajar Added. 2018 Lariat
#91
I'm guessing the 2016 firmware update with the cluster was when Ford was preparing for the new Expedition. It's got to have a "Liftgate Ajar" warning.

I assume it is easier to change your cluster than most other parts of the process. It's a few screws and a plug. Clusters By Livnitup can send you a good 2016 or newer cluster with the correct mileage and like he said above, it also sets you up for pro trailer backup assist if you ever feel like attempting that mod too later on.

I really believe my 2016 Platinum (build date Jan 2016) tailgate warning worked then somewhere along the line it stopped. I don't have a "day zero" save of my BCM, but did save a copy before any ForScan mods. I was trying to see if the dealer "just" disabled the warning in 726-25-01. Right now, I cannot tell.
Tonight I changed per RED below and after restart the warning light came on and when put in reverse the icon appeared on bottom of screen. All this time, I had the tailgate CLOSED. That got me thinking the dealer might have opened tailgate and removed the wire from switch. I hope tomorrow to dig into the tailgate and figure this out. If the switch is there, then I will have all the wiring I need in place and rig up my own switch. It would really help if someone knew the TSB details or whatever guided the dealer to disable that system.

So on a 95 deg day today, my neighbor Bret(non member) decides to do this mod on his 16 Lariat in his garage guessing around 1. At approx.2 I get a text to come over he can't get the connector to lock back into place,so thinking this will be quick, go over and notice the white retainer that he removed to add pin #6 is not seated flush with the grey connector body as shown in Ape's vid thus keeping the 2 halves from locking close.
I tell Bret leave it alone will check it later when the sun isn't shining in on us this evening--nope-- get a text about 3, got a bigger problem with the connector, walk over there and he's holding a little piece of plactic, what is this, he replies that is the piece that you push down to release the 2 halves. After saying a few choice words about not waiting and it's been too damn hot and that's why I haven't done mine yet also and telling him now you need a new female connector and you have no brake lights etc. the truck is going nowhere. I leave knowing I'm stuck fixing his.
After this long winded venting my questions are since obviously I'll be involved with his pain; looked on different sites for Ford connector C405 ,part#, name, couldn't find any thing where he can get this female molex connector, etc pronto since he has no brake lights, tails etc.
What would have been keeping the white retainer from seating flush if the pins are pushed all the way down in the connector?
Is that right to have the pins pushed down that deep? Couldn't tell in Ape's vid just that the white retainer is flush with the connector.I would like to know since he asked me to help him repin it.
Thanks for any input, so my life doesn't involve his truck--too long.

Thanks Tom, when I got there it was phase 1 of panic mode. He mentioned about the pins moving around etc.I was not there when he decided to do this, but saw his pins are pushed deep into the grey connector including the 1 remaining plug(no pin) and still couldn't get the white retainer to seat flush. If we can get his connector to make contact we could do some creative taping to hold it together until he gets another connector. Just couldn't figure out why the white retainer won't seat. Waay too hot and humid now to even look at it now.
