Do you have a 2017 or 2018 with Ford Connect (listed on your window sticker)? If not, you're not going to be able to ever start your car with that app...

I just tried using the Ford Pass with my Sync 3 v2.0 before I start the USB upgrade. I'm not a fan either. The only cool part I saw on it for my 2016 was the actual fuel level in the truck, that was about it. I wasn't able to remote start the truck or remotely lock/unlock the truck from the app as shown in a lot of the Ford Pass videos. So, not worth having all that data, tracking and private information constantly getting transferred around in the back ground for a fuel level on the phone.
I have to ask, did you read what I posted? You have a 2016. Therefore, you do NOT have Ford Connect. Therefore, the app will never start your truck...

And here I thought it came standard with all 2017 models. Can I get it as an option to install?

No, you cannot.

Ford announced that "this summer" (meaning the summer recently ended) they would be releasing an updated product and service for vehicles that did not have Ford Connect. In short, a replacement to Ford Remote Access.

Unfortunately, Ford never did what they said, which is standard for their pre-announcements.

You can still buy Ford Remote Access, which is 2 modules that you install, you then activate Remote Start with FORScan or your dealer (numerous threads), and the selling dealer turns on the cellular remote start.

Yup. Got it. I'm okay with that. I'm a bit old school anyways. As long as my remote fob starts my truck I'm all good.

I'm going to to retry that 2.3 update when I get home tonight. My USB ports starts working (charging) my phones again so I'm hoping if I just try a different thumb drive, I'll have better luck. I have a 32G SanDisk Cruzer blade 2.0 that won't even format to the exFAT. And my other 32G SanDisk ultra 3.0 is the one that the truck says requires too much power and to remove. Maybe a PNY might work better or even a SD card with a USB adapter.

Please let me know if it works. I've tried with the USB, with the Wi-Fi and nothing.

Ver 2.0 and lower will not update over WiFi. You will need to use a USB drive to update it, or visit the dealer.

Was this a memo Ford put out? Is this an official statement? It makes sense because my wifi update has never really worked at all this year. Every month or so I'd scan for updates, even though it's set for automatic updates, but it would just sit there scanning and scanning. Even with automatic updates selected ever since I got the truck I think I'm still rocking the original v2.0 that came with the truck.

Nope just coming from my experience. V2.0 didn't update or find any updates. As soon as I went to V2.2 I selected update over WiFi. When V2.3 came out it found it, and tried to update it over WiFi. I stopped it because it was taken forever.

Many users upgraded from 1.0 to 2.2 over wifi. It just hit and miss. Some have issues, some don't.
