Maps are not a warranty item, and they're not 5 years old, they're two (not much solace, but still important to note). Maps are wear items like your air filters, tires and belts. Your dirty oil filter is not covered under warranty..."

First off.. YES.. the current maps in the 16's and some 17''s ARE 5 years old.... This is April of 2019.... The Nav Map Version in my 16' Lariat SCREW is NA 1 14, which means January of 2014... Taking into consideration it is past January, then very simple math says 2019 minus 2014 is 5... (well... in the math that I was taught back in the late 60's.. perhaps not this new math they teach today!) The maps in my 2016 F150 are 5 years old. (and don't show any new roads or major changes that have opened in the last 6 years - of which here in STL, here are a quite a few MAJOR changes and new highways.)

I read it correctly - I'm just interpreting it differently...

I agree.. maps are not warranty item, and I never said they were, and they never will be. (although they probably should be!) But.. you CAN buy a replacement filter, or even an upgraded oil filter, but you can NOT buy a map Update! .. but Ford does want to give us generally good customer support during the warranty period, because it is during the warranty period Ford has the most physical exposure with the customer! - however, usually, after the warranty, the majority of car owners never return to the dealership.

I am saying Ford is showing all signs of probably not going to offer up map updates in the future. why bother? most people today, don't keep the truck more then 3 years. and people buying 3 year old trucks are not expecting the maps to be updated. So Ford, could totally get away with never ever updating a nav map... All they have to do is be sure the maps are recent, in the current model truck - which they are doing!. (18's have 2017 or 2018 maps and some 19's have 2018 or 2019 maps.) Yes.. with Sync 3.3, - the 3.0's are now obsolete beyond recall updates. (unless Ford decides to invest in an upgrade for the 3.0's, but there is no Gain nor incentive for Ford to do so now that the 3.0's are falling out of the warranty periods.. I believe they will concentrate on the 3.3 trucks.. and may switch to 4.0 by the time the current crop of 3.3 are falling out of warranty and no longer coming to the dealerships.

I hope I am totally wrong, and starting Tomorrow, Ford will start providing USB 2019 Map Updates for us 3.0 people... but I am not holding my breath waiting for that to happen - in fact, I have taken steps to have accurate maps by buying a Garmin with Lifetime Maps and Traffic. (plus, it was cheaper then the cost of a Map Update from Ford.)

Pray for Maps!
My 2018 did not come with 17 or 18 maps! While the version was NA 1 15, the actual map information was way older than June 2015 roads. Large section of interstate opened nearby in June 2015 (and they don't build them over the weekend), yet it was not in my maps in 2018 vehicle. After much squawking and complaining the dealer agreed to update the maps, but they ordered an SD card rather than a USB. Had the APIM replaced today for lockup problems and it had NA 1 17 maps. Was also supposed to get the map upgrade today, seems like they didn't know the APIM had maps. But now interested to see what comes in on the USB. Would be nice to have the new maps... on a new vehicle....what a concept!

I'm in the same boat - My 2018 was built in late 2017, and came with the NA 1 15. I knew it needed an update the day I drove it off the lot in July 2018, with their promise to update to the then-current map. Took it in and they updated to the latest 3.0 but no new map, they said that it WAS the latest map version, I even showed them a later version on a 2018 in the showroom, , yada yada... so much for that promise. This dealer goes back and forth from great service to abysmal service and back again with no warning. I never know what I am going to get with them.

So... I'm wondering - can I get a 3.3 APIM and just put it in and get both 3.3 and the latest map? I might spring for that expense if it's that simple. Does anyone know?

Well... I stand corrected... Ford seems to not even be bothering to put the latest maps, in the latest trucks... Go figure.

Anyway.. it is a mess for sure - and Ford is keeping its mouth SHUT about it.

I'm curious about the updated APIM as well.

I'm only asking, because I thought the 15 were the same as 14's when all we had to do is swap out SD cards.
I have a 2016 Sync 3 3.0 with 1.15NAV

Ford still freely updates the maps on MyFordTouch/Sync2 no problem. But Sync 3 they are lagging.

Just had my car in to the dealership. Used Forscan to disable navigation on my 2017 vehicle with 1 15 maps. Told them nav stopped working and now I have a new APIM on the way. What maps I will have with the new APIM is still to be seen, but Im hoping 1 17 at a minimum.

When I got the APIM, it was flashed with 1.17 maps. They are about a year or so old.

Angry update for MAPS

I understand that the map makers need to be paid, so do the tomtom and garmin map updaters need to get paid their cost - but you can buy a YEAR long update for about $60 ( or less on special) and you get updates at a much higher frequency then every two years. FORD makes enough money to provide updates to the map. And they need to do it more often then every two years.

Do you know that in Europe area the maps update are free for 5 years? Why do they get free updates on their F150 and we pay?

The second thing is not having updated map can be down right dangerous to us owners. I had a near collision following the map instructions in Nashville, merging on interstate on the right, and being told that i need to exit in a very very short distance to the left to get on another interstate. Then I see a sign that tells me not to do that trick, all because the map update did not tell me a different, legal way to get to my destination...
