That is not how updates of map software work. They normally just go to the next number for updates with maps. My Garmin (before my stepson took it to Denmark with him) continually updated their versions by going from 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.21 to 1.3, etc. Unless there is a major update (example Sync 3 from 1.x to 2.3) with major changes in function or how it works, maps are just incremental. Same as old paper maps, just making changes and additions to roads.
I suppose if California finally falls into the Pacific then we will see a version 2 in a map upgrade.

NA 1 16 means maps from Oct 2016 (typically 2018 Model year)
NA 1 15 means maps from Oct 2015 (typically 2017 Model year)
NA 1 14 means maps from Oct 2014 (typically 2016 Model year)
NA = North America

$150 for an update to software provided by Ford in the Sync 3 Nav systems? How about, no. Why would anybody pay for this update? All truck software updates should be included in the price of the truck.

By that logic, so should oil changes and new tires. Just because it’s “software”, how do you figure it’s not something you should pay for? Data is gathered and compiled into maps, tested by QA, and software developers need to package and QA the update. Those people need to get paid, too.

Agreed, it shouldn't be another way to generate revenue especially during the time it's under any Ford warranty. For example, the original manufacturers warranty or a Ford Certified warranty.

When I buy Windows 10, I get all the updates included for the life of the software. Can you imagine if Microsoft charged $150 everytime you had to get an update?

I am sure Ford will get this question tons of times, but like myself, I just bought my 2018 on the 25th of February. Will they upgrade mine FOC?
My guess is no.
To the people who support Ford charging for this update, let me say this.
You buy a $130 Garmin, and those come with lifetime map updates. Hey, they have to collect the same amount of data Ford does.
I paid a 1 time fee for my Android phone and I get free updates not matter if I paid $1 for that phone or $1000.
Yet we pay $795 for a Clarion / Ford navigation unit????
I am not complaining about the Ford stereo. I just don't think we should pay 1 cent for maps that Ford only update every so many years.
