Default Sync 3 for 2017!!!

Here is what Ford is telling dealers about what's new in Sync 3 for the 2017 models. Now, will this be software upgrades for the 15-16 models Ford Customer Service Sync 3 Support????

Thanks for sharing – It will be interesting to see if Ford will provide an upgrade path to SYNC Connect for those w/ existing SYNC 3 systems (2016).

At a minimum, I cannot wait for the software update to the existing SYNC 3 that will allow Android Auto/CarPlay capability. I would be willing to pay for this upgrade but hoping it will be part of the standard software upgrade process.

SYNC 3 is awesome but there are a few bugs so I’m hoping that the next release addresses this and improves the overall stability of the system.

I read that Sync Connect requires a modem that our trucks do not have.

That's absolutely correct. I'm wondering if Ford will replace their current Remote Access solution with Sync Connect and make it available for purchase. Hopefully we'll know more soon.

Why need a router? Unless there is an always live wifi, which makes the vehicle more hackable.

There is built in wifi and you can buy into Ford Pass, which among other things, let's you reserve parking spot and find parking spots. The new functions should be able to be incorporated into existing Sync 3, though probably as a subscription. It would be great PR to include the 15-16 models into the program and include free subscriptions.

Wi-Fi will need an access point.

Cellular modem will work anywhere cellular service is available.

Ford IVT has already responded saying the 2016 trucks do not possess the hardware and they don't have any information for an path to this....YET

I purchased the remote acccess solution because it wasn't just around the corner.

Yeah I would agree that it would need a cellular connection for internet access kind of like Onstar for GM products that you can remote start and unlock from their remotelink app.
