Supercharger on the 5.0L, Worth it?

Supercharger on the 5.0L, Worth it?
I am really itching to pull the trigger on a supercharger, but I have some major reservations. I have to drive a pretty decent amount and my truck is my daily driver. I am worried about reliability and gas mileage changes. I am fine with a drop in mileage but would prefer to stay above 10 mpg....
Any thoughts?

I'd think your mpg might go up with the S/C granted you keep out of the pedal. The cost is the real factor, the extra warranty is available also. I don't think reliability is the concern if you're not racing it.
If I had another $8k, I'd have a hard time not doing it.

Not the same vehicle, but I had the phase 2 (625hp) kit on my Mustang 5.0 for the past two years and didn't have any real issues. Roush tune and custom tune. I did have a small problem, but was easily fixed. One of the maf sensor connectors didn't seal right and got water in it. I'd say as long as you don't go crazy with smaller pulleys and custom tunes, you'll be fine. After all, Roush offers a warranty on their kits. But, I honestly wouldn't expect the motor to last 200,000 miles with that kind of power. If I had the cash, I'd put one on my F150 in a heartbeat.

I can assure you, you put a supercharger on it, your gas mileage will suffer!!! Mainly because you will likely drive the snot out of it! I know I would. I have an 05 Corvette, and people praise the fuel mileage with them, however anytime mine is driven it gets run hard and fuel mileage isn't that great lol

I know this is kinda unrelated, but quite a few years ago I had a Supercharged '98 Pontiac Grand Prix that I loved. I smoked a lot of people at red lights because that car was such a sleeper. (family four door) Your truck would be the same with a supercharger.

LOL. If the supercharger is belt driven you are adding more parasitic losses to the drive train and your gas mileage will suffer. That's just the way it works. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it transforms from one form to another.
It's a heck of a lot more fun to drive, but gas mileage increase is NOT the reason to add a super charger.
edited: I suppose you could lean the crap out of your tune and get better gas mileage but you would blow your engine... Most S/C tunes 'richen' the tune adding more fuel...

I had a ProCharger Stage II on my 15 Mustang GT. We got to 600whp with tuning. Add a fuel pump booster and bigger injectors and can likely get to 700whp.
It does change the dynamic of the vehicle. But since this is a truck and you aren't winding up the RPMs in the turns, that shouldn't affect you too much.
I got pretty bad gas mileage.. but it's probably more about wanting to let it rip any chance you get.
