Default Suggestions for covering hole in tailgate

Wife backed into a mailbox and now I have this puncture in my tailgate. Spending $1000 to replace the tailgate is not a priority right now. So now I’m trying to think of a cool way to cover it. My first thought was a magnet of some kind. Then i remembered that ford did this thing where they made all of their trucks aluminum.

I’m not sure how a sticker would work because it’s also dented inward. So the sticker wouldn’t lay flat. And finally, it’s at an awkward spot because of that lip in the tailgate.

Any suggestions?

My first thought was the platinum trim piece for the tailgate. They are on EBay for about $150. You can get a replacement tailgate for less than $500 on EBay. Other than that I don’t know what would look decent.

You could take the inside cover off and push everything back out into place as much as you can. Even then the decal wouldn't have any backing over the hole and you have to be careful not to push in on it as it will crease around the hole.

If you attach a piece of tin on the back side where the hole is after bending everything back as best as you can. You could then smooth it out with some body putty and then you would just need to repaint it. May make it look better until you can replace it or have it professionally done.

Just a thought, others may have better ideas.

She backed into it even with the backup alarm warning blaring in her ears?

Most important thing to do is tell and assure your wife that it's no big deal, it gives the truck some character.

Then quietly shop your local Craigslist and Facebook classifieds for a replacement tailgate. As for a quick, cheap, inexpensive, cover up...well, there ain't one. Guess you could get a big sticker that looks like a Band Aid and cover the hole.

Sadly, that looks like ***. If you try to cover it up, it'll look like ***... with a sticker on top. If you're going to sticker-cover the ***, I would suggest the "fake gunshot" stickers.

However, the above recommendation is best... start shopping Craigslist and Facebook for a replacement.

I know it's no consolation....but a buddy of mine had had to replace his tailgate three times so far. He has had three different guys back his boat trailer down to the boat ramp...and they dropped the tailgate AFTER him telling them NOT to drop the tailgate. And of course....it totalled out the tailgate every time. Now....I'm not saying that alcohol was involved.....but........... .

Installing a flip up tongue jack on the boat trailer would be a lot cheaper.
