2WD w/ 3.55 E-lock vs. 4WD w/ 3.55 E-lock
I am building a Lariat SuperCrew 157" WB with Max Towing and 3.55 electronic locking axle ratio. Are there any additional advantages to getting 4WD? I don't do any offroading, but I do heavy towing and I also live in a state that gets some snow/ice. The $3,000 additional pricetag, reduced gas mileage, and reduced towing capacity (200 lbs) for 4WD makes it worth the research. I currently have a Toyota Tundra Crewmax w/ 2WD and I only get a little slipping during icy conditions.

Which State? If I could live without 4WD I'd go with 2WD and a 3.73 rear gear with rear locking diff. But if I see more than 5 days of snow/ice per year, forget it. I want 4WD

I would never buy a truck without 4WD... retail value is more when you trade or sell..

You're right!! I didn't think it would be that big of a difference. I went to KBB, and the difference on a 2010 was $3,250 and the difference on a 2006 was $2,550. Definitely, worth having the 4WD.

Better looking at it than looking for it.

You're absolutely right. My philosophy is you'll get the $3,000 back when you go to trade it in. 2WD trucks are very undesirable around my parts. Although I do live in PA and in the snow belt.

I live in Mass, and we get a fair amount of snow. But even if we didn't, I'd want 4WD for pulling boats up slippery (or sand) boat ramps, or any other time I'm on dirt. But mostly I got it for snow. I will NEVER not own a four- or all-wheel-drive vehicle so long as I live where there's snow. We currently have two such vehicles (my Lariat 4x4, and an Acura MDX).
Been stranded a few times in the past, and swore it would never happen again. I sleep easy at night knowing I can get anywhere, at any time, in any weather, safely and capably.

I have owned 2 4X4 F150s, one lifted on 37s and the other was lifted on 38s and they never were put in 4X4. So I bought a 2WD this time but now I hunt and fish a lot, had been stuck twice so with that being said I will never buy another 2WD truck.
