The Strictly 3.5L N.A. Thread
There has been a lot of talk and rumors going around for the 2.7L turbo engine. Just like last gen, it seems that the naturally aspirated V-6 is bound to get neglected.
I though it would be appropriate to have a thread dedicated to the 3.5 N.A. only. This is for owners and anyone interested in the 3.5 V-6. There have been some big predictions for fuel economy for the 2.7 turbo, but I will gladly predict that the natural 3.5L will do just as good, if not better. Let us not forget that the 5.0 natural does just as well as the 3.5L turbo in regards to fuel. With the huge weight savings of the 2015 and up trucks, the 3.5 NA may be more than enough for a lot of light duty truck users, especially if the payload is sufficient. AGAIN, this is a 3.5L NA only information thread. It was not intended to "cross thread" or start a new generation of engine wars. |
With the weight reduction I expect it to do just slightly better than the 3.7. Figure 24-25 hwy? Maybe 16-17 city.

I have a 3.7 supercab 4x4. I use my truck as a truck. Towing 5000 lbs, hauling tools and building materials. It does great and I'm sure the 3.5 will be even better.

Makes 290HP/254 torque in the explorer iirc
With the new weight savings I figure it'll be a great engine. I have the 3.7L now. Love it |
Great

I had the old 3.5L in my wife's Ford edge. It was a real nice performing engine but we were only getting 19mpg combined out of that little crossover. I'm sure the new direct injection version will be nice.

With the new weight savings I figure it'll be a great engine. I have the 3.7L now. Love it I even saw a thread of a guy pulling a 5th wheel with one  |

Is this the exact same engine? I thought it was suppose to be new. I would guess that power would be same or greater to the outgoing V-6. Cool that people are liking the 3.7L Seems more than potent enough for a lighter supercab, especially in 2wd. I even saw a thread of a guy pulling a 5th wheel with one  I'm sure the 3.5 will be new. The previous 3.5 engine does not get very good mpg. I know someone with a fusion awd with thh 3.5. It averages 18 mpg. Horrible for a car. |
For the way I use my truck, the 3.7 and 3.5 should be good for me. I'd probably even think it's more powerful than my current 5.4!
Anyway, I don't know which engine I'll get in me next truck, but I'm happy with all of them from my reading about these engines. I'll definitely look hard at the 3.5, and it's at the top of my list. |
