Street ride quality difference between FX4 package and without?
Hello everyone. I was wondering if there was a significant ride quality (on the street/highway) between F150s with FX4 package and without it?
I do not intend to do any serious off-roading so priority is on "calmer" ride quality on the street/highway. I was just wondering if the ride quality with FX4 off road package is worse than without it?
Thank you.

My '15 Lariat scab 145" on 18s without the FX4 is one of the better riding vehicles I've ever been in and I like to think that I've rode in my share of nice cars. It is also the best handling truck I've ever drove. It sets firm and square in the turns without the typical body roll of a pickup. The BFG KO2 tires I upgraded to changed the characteristics some over the Goodyear tires it came with, I'd not call it a rougher ride, just more feedback.

Save the Manuals!
I test drove a 5.0 FX4 SCrew when I bought my truck and I thought the ride was a little rougher than what I bought. There were a ton of other variables though since it was at different dealers and the trucks had different size wheels etc.

Here are my thoughts on my new FX4 when I purchased it in February. I sill like it. Even my bride complements on the quality of the ride.
"...When I first went to look at it, I told the salesman that I thought this was what I wanted, but I was afraid the ride would be too harsh due to the FX4 package in the short, short wheel base.
He laughed and stated "You won't leave here today without this truck." We loaded up and went for a test ride down a bumpy section of our local interstate highway.
Holy Cow! Smooth, firm and very, very quiet. It has a wonderful ride. Very remarkable indeed. It's hard to believe that it's an off road FX4..."

I have short wheelbase FX4 with max tow and it's a STIFF ride. It's great on smooth surfaces and soaks up big bumps pretty well. But on uneven road surfaces and over small cracks/joints/bumps you definitely feel the stiffness back there. I wouldn't say the rear is jittery exactly. But it's firm.
In corners it's okay for a truck. Typical body roll and tendency to understeer but I've never felt like it wasn't gripping the road adequately.
Front is not stiff at all. Very smooth.

I have the FX4 package on mine with 18" tires. I think the ride is great. Handles very well. I do prefer a stiffer ride though, have always driven a pick-up as my primary vehicle. It is what I am used to.
I think the only way you will know which ride you prefer is the drive 2 back to back with FX4 and without FX4. Same roads same speed, that would let you know how you feel about the ride difference.
I would be interested to hear what you thought if you do that test.
If I had to guess I would think you might notice a more ride quality difference between 18 and 20 tires versus FX4 and not FX4. Total disclaimer I have absolutely positively nothing to back that up.
If you are really concerned about ride quality I would also drive 18 verses 20 tires back to back. Take your time and pick a truck you will be very happy with.

Worst hairday ever...
I have the FX4 package on my XLT. Stock shocks might be good for off-road use but I don't think they're very good for street use. I put Bilsteins for 2014 F150 in the rear and it helped. Still waiting for Bilsteins for the front.
