Stopped building new 2018 Lariats? Or BS?
Hi peeps, tell me, have the local Ford dealerships screwed me?
I'm most of the way through my evaluation of trucks and ready to buy a 2018 Lariat. It's been likely that I'd want to build one, rather than take one off of a lot, because I have fairly strict requirements. I've been researching trucks and buying and leasing and now I'm ready to talk price. But this morning, one of the dealership agents I'm working with tells me that I can no longer get a Lariat built. They're only building XL and XLTs. So I have to buy a Lariat from a lot, or not at all, until the 2019s are available in the late summer / early fall.
Funny thing is, on Friday / Saturday I was trying to get more time from two dealership agents on the phone, but it was late, and they both ended their days. Did they know that on Monday we'd be stuck, and then they could squeeze me on a truck from a lot? Or is that paranoid? It seems likely serious hardball. Likely to backfire.
Would a sales agent really do that?

This sure sounds fishy to me... maybe it's true? But I'd tend to doubt it.
Special order sales are super easy for dealers. It's a guaranteed sale and they get the full hold-back as the truck usually doesn't sit on the lot after it's delivered.
I'd try to confirm this with another dealer. Also, I would expect the pricing to be just as negotiable as on a truck on the lot.
There's a long thread on here about pricing as well, might be helpful.
Good luck,
-Matt
