Default Stock speaker question

Are the stock front door speakers and front tweeter connected to the same output, or do they have their own separate output from the back of the head unit (sync 3 in my case)?

I would like to know also. I just bought some Infinity Reference component system. I planned to mount the crossovers in the doors but running a new wire from the doors to the pillars seems like a PITA. I read somewhere that someone thought that the wires from the door speakers feeds the tweeters, but I am not sure about this. there are 4 wires going to the door speakers, maybe a set leads to the tweeters?

Buy a cheap continuity tester, pull the stock speakers and check for continuity between the wires.
If you have continuity between the speakers, then the door speaker feeds the tweeter.....If not its a separate wire.

Hope this helps !

I can tell you for sure on the Sony system they are separate feeds from the audio processing module (DSP).

I did find this on Metra website. Says it will retain tweeters if applicable. This tells me that they are feed off the door speakers. I will check when I come to install the speakers this weekend.

This is the harness for front door speakers for a 2016.

http://www.metraonline.com/files/pro...2-5602_web.pdf This clearly states that they are feed of the door speakers and not out of the head unit.

The wires to the tweeters are live but full spectrum, and can be used without rewiring if you are just replacing speakers. BUT the original equipment tweeters have the crossover built onto them so when you remove them you also remove the crossover. If you are replacing with component speakers in the original places you will need to have a crossover for your tweeters. I rewired my tweeters to come from the replacement crossover I mounted in the door. You can do this or mount the tweeters in the door and run the wires to them there. or add another crossover in the dash to run them off of.

Something else you could do is to replace the door speaker with a full range speaker (co-axial or tri-axial) and keep the factory tweeter.

Regardless, I can/would run a new wire from the door to the tweeter area if/when I install a component for the fronts.
