Truck is brand new, has the little wheel thing on my right above where the brake controller would go, if I click it it says no trailer hooked up. I do not have a brake controller, my trailer doesn't need it, it has surge brakes.

yeah you should've gotten a little separate manual with the stickers in a sleeve in it.
I am really surprised how many dealers let people leave the lot without going thru features of the trucks, showing the manuals, especially stuff like this pro-trailer backup assist (a big marketing point for Ford).

Give him a break, it came with the truck and he wants to try it out. I have it, can't really even test it out as no spot for the sticker is within fords range that will work, tongue jack blocks it on some turns.

Stickers should be in its own little package that should be next to the owners manual.
I don't use the backup assist often but it's fun to play with. I didn't set it up til after a year and I tow a boat every 2-3 weeks. One day I was curious and finally set it up. It was a bit complicated at first but it's pretty cool. Note, after going into reverse and pushing the backup assist, it does take about 4-5 seconds for the truck to confirm the sticker. At boats ramps, stalling even that long can cause commotion. In other words, I only use it when no one else is around.
