Steering wheel heat control
I currently own a (very)Late production 2013 FX4 Supercab with every single option available, and 16,500 miles on it. However, I have a VERY first world problem- I would like to have a heated steering wheel. Currently my seat heat/cool controls are only accessible thru the touch screen and I HATE it. In the '15&up trucks, they finally added external seat switches, but my question is: Is the steering wheel controls ONLY accessible on the touch screen? My problem with the touch screen is, I have to remove my glove to operate it, and it doesn't really work that well at -10F to begin with! Lastly, don't say to retrofit it from a platinum, unless you want to completely disassemble the truck to put in the need components- it's impossible, Also- FORD will not reflash the truck to make it function.

Since yours is a 2013, you may want to ask over in the 2009-2014 area.....
But, on my 2016, the only way to turn on/off the steering wheel heat is on the touch screen like you mentioned. So my guess is yours is probably the same..

In my '16, the steering wheel heater is only available via soft button...there is no hard button like the seat heat/cool. I did some quick poking around to see if a voice command is available, but I don't immediately see one. However, if you do a remote start and it is cold out, the seat and steering wheel heaters will automatically come on...but they turn off when you hit the start button, but the steering wheel will be warm when you enter the vehicle.

why do you have to take your gloves off? At least with our 2015 with MFT it works just fine with gloves on. I assume the Sync 3 would be the same.
Because when the screen gets cold, it gets stiff and less responsive, and you really have to push hard to get the response you want. When it's summer time, you barely have to touch it to get a response.
BTW: the reason I'm asking is because, if it had an external "manual" switch, I would trade in my current truck for a new one. If the only access is thru the Multi-function display, I might as well keep what I have- and just wear gloves ALL WINTER.

I seem to recall that the earlier 2015s had a separate switch for the wheel before it all moved to the touch screen? Could be having a senior moment of course!!
But IF you can get a heated wheel for the 13 models it may be possible to just wire it to a separate switch rather than having to go through the Can bus.

I believe the button on the steering wheel is for the steering feel not heated steering wheel.
Also when researching adding a heated steering wheel to my XLT it does seem like most ford vehicles use the same HSWM. And some of the vehicles do have a physical switch to turn it on. So in theory yeah probably could get one of said switch on the CAN bus to turn on and off.
