Do people still rotate the spare into the mix with every tire rotation? I was still under the impression that a spare was intended for emergencies only... dumb me.
Only flat I've ever had in the 24 years I've been driving was on my Mustang, which has 14" brembos up front. At the time, I couldn't find a spare that would fit over that brake, so, I just took it out. When I actually got a flat, I called my buddy who took a wheel off his Mustang and drove it down to me where I was stuck. He was also the best man at my wedding. A real friend.

Point of a spare tire is to get you to the nearest tire store safely. 1" diameter difference isn't going to damage anything in that short period of time. In the 17 years of driving, I've had one flat. If one was to rotate their spare with the other 4 tires, then that's a different story.

I rotate my spare on my Jeep Wrangler every time. I used to do it on my f150s until they put a different size one on it. I figure it this way. When I need my spare I know it has been seen an tested within 5000 miles or so, when was the last time you checked your spare for pressure and age cracks?

I'm actually in the same situation of wondering if I actually NEED to replace my spare with an equal size tire as my new Falken Wildpeak AT3W's that are 275/70R18's. My stock size spare is a Goodyear 275/65R18. So my current tires are 1.3 inches taller than my spare is. But with open differentials......would it even matter if I used a 1.3" smaller tire as a spare for a couple hundred miles if needed on a road trip? Anyone done it before?

As I said I’ve had the situation where my duratrac lost air to fast, put the spare on and it was just terrible (winter) and folks were closed :P so I was stuck with t that way for almost a week.
Rather spend the 700-900 bucks for rim and rubber, replace tire and not have to wait on the universe
