Spare FOB left in truck tailgate not locked

I think this is a dumb idea.. I personally don’t want my truck ready to drive away if someone happens to get inside, say while fueling up or getting the mail out of the mailbox box. And other times where I don’t normally lock the truck but I’m not in it.

I just tested my '18 Lariat
With key fob in your pocket or a long way away:
7-8 and 9-0 locks all doors and tailgate.
Use of the security code and all doors and tailgate unlock.
With the key fob in your pocket all touch features are active. Even if the doors are locked the tailgate touch feature will be active.
With key fob a long way from the truck:
The touch feature for the doors and tailgate is defeated or not active.
Use security code and all doors and tailgate unlock.
With the key fob in either of the Ford inside the security locations the door and tailgate touch features are disabled, and use of the security code is required to get inside per above.
There are two key fob security locations inside the truck
1) In the bottom of the forward cup holder
2) In the slot below the hinge in the console
Test it yourself and get the same result as I did.
Refer to the owners manual on pages 71 and 79
If you do not use Ford's security location then you need to have an RFID pouch for you key fob. Totally unnecessary. Just put the key fob where Ford says to put it.

I looked at my 2016 manual... the picture of the console area is terrible... can't tell if it is the front center console or the center divider in the rear seat. I do not see any area inside my front console near the hinge to put the FOB. Putting it under the front storage area rubber mat is a pain in the neck. But I will try it and see if it works reliably. When I just put it in the center console, it is 50/50 whether it will still allow the tailgate to open or not... strange... the doors NEVER open, even with the FOB in the console. Does anyone know if the sensors are in the doors and tailgate themselves?

So, reading more details on this... it seems like the two locations are not both in every truck. One if for steering wheel shifters and the other is for console shifters. So, I only have the front tray hidden area.
I also can't find the sentence in my 2016 manual that specifically says this area is for anything other than programming and starting the car if FOB battery is dead. No statement that having the FOB in this area disables the door and tailgate touch features. Can you tell me what section title it is under? Since 2016 page numbers are different, that may help me find it. May be I missed it.
