Default A Solution to F150 Wind Noise Issues

This may help solve many (not all) of the wind noise issues folks are having. Let your dealership know.

2015 F-150 Door Fitment Job Aid Video:
  • Workshop manual section, 501-26 for body margin and flushness specifications.
  • Workshop manual section, 501-03 shows how to make any adjustments required.
Many who experience high wind noise at speed are having issues of their doors not being properly fitted/shingled from the factory. The front fenders/A pillarshould be slightly further out than the door (door tucked in a little). Same with the rear doors on a crew cab, they should be shingled (tucked in) or else you will get wind noise and water penetration etc over time.

My truck is currently getting aligned again (they were having a hard time getting it to factory specs the first time). Unfortunately I do not have before pics, but will post pics once we get it back. Also if anyone has a pdf or pic of the 501-26 or 501-03 please feel free to post them here.

Body panels should be aligned like feathers and fish scales.

I had this issue with the second 2015 mustang I owned. Drove me crazy. Then again, I'm an aircraft mechanic, have been for many years, so (it's my curse) notice every damn little imperfection in houses, cars, trucks, jets, hell, even the piers under my house. It sucks. Sometimes I wish I never noticed things like that.

My 2016 is driving me nucking futz! I checked it tonight when I got home and almost ALL the door hinge bolts were loose. Two of them I could turn with my fingers I figured BINGO problem solved. Tightened them all up snug and its freaking worse!

Dealership will not take me seriously on this issue and just says its the same as the service managers truck. I say well his POS is just a noisy then and has a problem. So frustrated and pissed off with this issue. My first Ford ever and if they don't fix it this will be my last.

Were the hinge bolts loose on the door side or the body side of the hinges or both?

All on the body side. The door side took maybe 1/4 turn. There for sure tight.

This wind makes me nuts this is otherwise the best truck I have owned.

Does no one find this a bit strange? Panels need to be shingled to prevent air and water intrusion? Seriously?

Might have found something.

My drivers rear door the seal in the upper rear corner is all twisted and deformed vs the pass rear door. Perhaps this is where all the turbulent air is coming in.

Also drivers side inner seal I used a putty knife and pried out on it from the top down the side to puff up the seal more. I have made progress in wind noise reduction.
