So here are my Leer cap issues
Brand new Leer DCC contractor cap purchased in Feb 2017. I had the DCC cap before on my Ranger and NEVER a problem with the fit n finish, so I naturally ordered another when I bought my new F150. My issues are the way it flares out over the back of the truck ( to which Leer and dealer says "you're putting a square box on a round truck, so Ford is to blame"), the gaps between the door and the side of the cap (see pics) and the fact that water comes in the rear door when there's any snow or water lying on that shelf and you open the door, the rear shocks are crap only opening the door half way and the handles are really stiff. Does anyone else on here have one of these caps and the same problems?
Gloved finger showing how large the gap is on the passenger side.
The gap allowing water in from "the shelf"
The "overhang" on the rear corners
About the center of the wheel well is where the cap starts to flare out and continues all the way back.
On a positive note, the dealer was great about having me come back and they took "the shelf" off (the screws were rusted after a month) and put weather striping where the door and shelf meet. They also replaced the original shocks right away no questions asked. They can't however do anything about the gaps, other than put rubber weatherstripping to fill the gaps. Haven't had any snow or much rain to see if there's any difference. I'm really disappointed in Leers quality. Leer has said I can send it back, but I need the cap everyday, so not the best option. Anyone else encounter any of these issues??
thanks

Honestly I would not have accepted it when installed. Looks terrible to me. I would have found another manufacturer. Totally unacceptable fit in my opinion.

Hi Shadowblack.
I got your PM but thought I ought to just post on your thread.
I have a 6.5' box on a 2016 Ford. I just put a Swiss HDU cap on with the Windmill cap guys in Elora Ontario. I have no (unacceptable) issues with fit. My door and panels close just fine and I do not think I have any leakage anywhere. I definitely do not have any gaps.
My only complaints:
-The ladder rack is a pretty damned flimsy, but I will replace it with something a little more appropriate.
-The rubber/foam gasket used to seal the cap to the rails was not very delicately trimmed.
-The cut ends on the white metal trim pieces were not end-painted.
All in all, although SWISS is the budget cap manufacturer, I am very happy and impressed with the cap. It came in at ~CAD$2300, taxes, clamps, install. I have just added rock lights on the exterior and painted the cut-ends and ladder rack.
Here are some photos of it.

I have an ARE DCU on mine, with full rear doors, and the fit is substantially better. Yeah, the bed is somewhat round, which can be a bit of a challenge... but there's no excuse for being that far off.
I carry expensive communications equipment in mine (where one box is more expensive than the entire truck) so I demand water-tightness. We typically have the topper mounted, then spend some time with a garden hose going around every seam, looking for leaks. If one is noted, it gets marked, dried out, then filled with a clear flexible body filler.
I would take that thing back.

Thanks to all those who have replied! When I called Leer originally, customer service asked me for the serial number, she said that fits a 14 Ford.......... I replied its on a 16 Ford, to which she said this fits 15 and up, changes made in 14 ???. When I asked about the gaps, was told that's how they come, really ??? Is there anyone on here who can check the serial number? The sticker inside the cap says 15 Ford and up. OntGC thanks for the info and photos,( side note what rims and tires are those? I'm looking for a winter set) I've never heard of SWISS brand. I did price an ARE and it was over $1000 CAD more and the Leer Fiberglass was $2000 CAD more. I have thought about the Leer fiberglass if they would take this back, but after reading some of the forum members troubles, I'm hesitant to say the least.

I know that the guys that i purchased from had two of the caps that I bought. They also have a fiberglass with a tiny rise w/ tool boxes in magnetic grey for almost the same price. I would have purchase the leer but to colour match would be $400 locally--or a poor home-do tremclad job.

The winters on right now are 275/55/20 Cooper Discoverer M+S with studs (purchased new). Best winter tires i have ever had but louder than my summers due to the studs. The rims are some stock ford variant from a 2010 (I think). I bought them for a song on kijiji and poorly applied a few coats of that plastic dip stuff. I have Mickey-T APZ3 (something something) for summer which are absolutely pathetic in the snow but work great in the summer and are quite on the HWY.
It is nice to have two sets of rims if you can get a deal on them.
Good luck!

I had a leer DCC on my 2015 250, and had alot of the same issues you had the shelf would let water leak in when opening the hatch the handles where super stiff until I used it daily for about 6 plus months even with lube added, and it overhung the sides of the box and got worse and worse the more kilometers I put on the truck I now have weatherfuard hi side boxes and the latches on that are a treat compared to the leers

Is it possible you have a bad installer? I agree your cap doesn't look right, but the dealer should be the one bending over backwards instead of telling you too bad and calling Leer yourself. They're the face of Leer and should pull more weight here. If they say it's bad Leer should listen to them.
Being a rookie with these caps, I took mine home without properly checking things the way I should. (I know now). I called my installer up two days later and he had me come over right away to make things right if they couldn't fix it. They fixed it and now I'm very happy.
If your dealer doesn't care that you are not satisfied, you got a bad dealer imo.
