That's what my money was on. The inner tie rod is designed to be a fuse.

Sounds like the OP was at or near full-lock in one direction when the impact happened. Probably allowed for that movement in the slot, as opposed to perpendicular to the slot.

Seems like you got pretty lucky OP. Slow it down.

You are correct, I was pretty much at full lock upon impact. This all happened because I was running about 5 mins late for work and was being a little heavy on the throttle...

Anyway quite a relief that there was no other damage, however I will probably be buying a new wheel since it got pretty scuffed up from the curb...

Well I am glad that they got it fixed for you. Good thing too, because my only suggestion was to go back into the drive-through the other way with the wheels locked and repeat on the other side.

Bad advise, don't talk to your insurance and let them know your a bad driver! They will gladly pay for it, then you will!

This is a lesson learned vent!

Sorry it happened to you!

Yes this was my exact thought proccess, 14 years of driving without a single insurance claim (I'm 31), and I wasn't going to botch it now and watch my $64/month premium jump up.

I'm sure it was properly tightened, but it's a great thing it had room to move! Suspension components aren't designed to hold up to an impact, but hopefully this saved the OP from component failure.

The truck surely needs an alignment though, those slots exist to adjust camber. Unlikely the mechanic got things perfectly aligned when he put things back into place.

I have a similar issue and don't know what is wrong, can some one help diagnose this? It was raining and I hit a curb doing about 15 mph. Took it to get an alignment twice but the steering is still 45 degrees off center. It doesn't pull left or right, steering wheel is just 45 degrees off center when going in a straight line. Also the steering wheel straightens out whenever I begin to step on the brake pedal. And idea on what to look for?

You've had it aligned twice... and the steering wheel is 45 degrees off center? I'd be taking it back to the alignment shop and telling them to sort their ****.

I would find another alignment shop. If they can't get it right the first time, time to look for another.

Yes, look for a new alignment shop.
