Sigh Conflicted. F-150 XL w/ 5.0L or F-250 XL w/ 6.2L
So we have been enjoying my wife's new 2018 SXT F-150 so much I have been contemplating getting another Ford truck. Also does not hurt my friend at the dealer said his dealer is on the short list of winning the owner a trip to Alaska based on sales at end of month. Which means smoking tushy deal on another truck if I bite.
So personally I want a Reg cab w/ 8ft bed , but might go Supercab w/ 6.5 to keep the length down. Now I know the tucks Iisted is far from Apples to Apples and I know the first thing people will ask is.... How much you plan on towing? So I will say small camper/boat at the most under 10K lbs. Also some might ask what kind of pricing per model? It is looking like close to $10k to 11k off msrp after all discounts on either truck.
We love the wifes 2.7L Eco boost b/c we live at altitude. Would either of these engines get wheezy say driving above 9000ft altitude? If so then I guess a F-150 w/ a 3.5 Eco might be the way to go. But to be honest I kind of want a truck that can pull a house off its frame, well just because gosh darn it. LOL
I know the 6.2L will get about 4 to 5 mpg less than the Coyote on average, but the truck is built like s-h-i-t brick house and I sort of want a slightly different truck than the wife.
Sigh. So you can all tell I am all over the friggen place.
Those who have a 5.0 and have driven the bigger 6.2 fill me in. Also with locking diff and tow package does the coyote slightly end up closer to the 6.2L f-250 in terms of pulling power?
Thanks everyone.

The 6.2L F250 had a quickness comparable to my previous 2010 F150 with a 5.4L 3.55 axle configured identical to my 2016 F150.
Motor Trend said a new generation 2017 Crew Cab 4WD 6.2L 3.73 axle truck was 15.9 seconds in 1/4 mile. That 2010 F150 with the 5.4L was 16.2 seconds to the 1/4 mile according to Motor Trend.
So while the 6.2L in the F250 can tow a heavy trailer, it will not do it effortlessly like the 5.0L in the F150.

Pulling power is one thing... Towing/Payload capacity is another. If you're willing to sacrifice the "quickness" and MPG of the Half ton, I'd say go 3/4 Ton and call it a day. That's my $0.02.

The F250 will be a lot taller than the F150, so if you have tall enough garage doors, then get it, but keep in mind, that it will be very close on a standard door. I have 8' doors and my F350 barely cleared them, had to bump the door opener to max to not hit it.

if you are towing under 8k, then the SuperDuty is probably overkill. once you get near 10k the SuperDuty makes more sense IMO. Payload is also going to go in favor of the SD. But, the F150 will ride and handle better for daily use.
So you need to decide what is more important, daily use or towing. How often will you be Towing? If your TT really is close to 10k, are you including gear, water, etc. or is that dry weight? Either way, if I were towing that heavy I would definitely pick the SD.

All great insight, one and all. No garage on current property, so there is that. LOL Yeah this would be utilized as a daily driver. So need to keep that in mind. Damn common sense. But it does help to have some.

Don't worry, battling this myself but for a Diesel. Do I want to get another F150 so I can reuse my topper, bedrug, mats, etc. or dump it all and get a F350 6.7 and start all over again!

Don't kid yourself that there's something that you missed but we can tell you here that'll make daily driving an empty 3/4 ton, at altitude without the turbodiesel no less, into a left brain decision.
And there doesn't have to be. If that's your idea of a toy then run with it.
