Default Shurtrax - Winter Driving - Do you know about this

There have been a bunch of posts about putting sand bags in the bed, especially in the 2015 models thats are lighter..

do you guys know about this?

I have one (in the Ram), so far so good. We shall see as winter really gets rolling though.

These look like a good solution also, and they seem like they would be easy to store when not in the bed too.

but sand bags are under a dollar apiece at lowes then fill them up with good sand for free. or buy the filled ones for under 5 dollars apiece. another plus with sand bags is you always have sand for traction if needed.

hmm... hadnt seen those before. Interesting...

I have the shurtrax filled to about ~200lbs for now. Its about half full. Its pretty heavy duty, i cant image it would spring a leak. But tying it down in place is kind of sketchy, just with the way the mounts are.

These dont look like you could actually tie them down, not sure how i feel about that even though i do run a bed cover 99% of the time.

yea and with sand bags, they freeze, bust open, sand goes everywhere and have to buy them every year, thus breaking even after only 3 years on my shurtrax.

I have a well and used to use watersoftener salt bags then once winter is over fill up our softener. I did use bags of dirt one year as they went on sale around winter trying to get rid of their inventory and I need it to patch spots in the yard where roots are growing out of the ground. Lately I've decided I'm better driving without the extra weight since it has sometimes made driving worse for me, but that only applies to my 4x4. 2wd some weight helps.

That's awfully expensive for a bit of dead weight.

Buy some premium tubular cloth sandbags for $30 and retain some dignity.

Lowes has 70lb. tubes of sand for 4.77 each. I've got 5 of these in the back and so far, so good. The bags are very durable and don't break open easily. I've used them in a previous truck and the bags lasted for for the 4 years that I had it.

I've used those sand tubes before in a previous truck and by the end of the season the bags had dry rotted and broken open. At least I knew where I had been with the trail of sand I left everywhere...
