I bought a 2015 ford F150 3.5 ecoboost fx4 supercrew. It has 56k miles and pretty much in mint condition. The lincoln dealer gave me no warranty on the vehicle on what's left on the power train. Would this be worth it to get? Are there any known issues I should be concerned about? I'd like to hear you guys thoughts.

Number 1, it is not a "warranty," it is a service contract. Those are not the same. Your odds of coming out ahead, fiscally, are better if you put that $2,225 in a savings account and "self insure." Read the fine print on the contract. The dealership will. All of the exclusions listed will be used to deny coverage if at all possible. Remember, the company selling you the contract is not in business to pay for your repairs. They are in business to make money; The more they can deny coverage, the more money they make.

That being said, on occasion, someone who has one of these service contracts comes out on top. They have a hugely expensive repair that is covered. Those, however, are rare. If you think you are one of the people likely to be struck by lightening, buy the contract. The dealer is betting that the contract won't have to pay for expensive repairs. I will bet with the dealer.

I would not own an Ecoboost truck out of warranty. I have seen engine replacement bills on this forum as high as $13K.

I got a new engine in my truck after owning it for 2 weeks due to buying a warranty. I've had $9K in repairs done to mine under warranty. New engine, trans service, diff service, and a new driveshaft. The trans and diff service were don't when my engine needed replacement. They opened them up to diagnose my issue, since they originally didn't think it was the engine. Driveshaft I got due to driveshaft clunk. Got the driveshaft when I only had 350 miles left on the warranty.

Warranties are not always about breaking even on cost. There is a cost we accept to pay and not get back for the peace of mind if there is a big bill. No different than car insurance, etc. As long as you read the fine print and do your research on who is providing the warranty you are good. Just make sure it covers all the things you want it to.

Waste of money IMO, but I'm not you. One thing I will say is they are insanely profitable for the dealer, so that's why they're so intent on peddling them.

What's the warranty? You only told us the price, which is pretty useless to answer your question.

Understandable...And Im a tech engineer [laughs] I'll get the details of the warranty. I haven't got it yet old them that i'm really considering it.

rliles1 pretty much nailed it. It's like vegas, the odds are you are going to lose and the house always wins. But every now and then someone comes out on top. Put the money in the market and let it sit there.
