On the contrary I would say most people should consider the 2.7 before anything else, exceptions and all.

Don't let all the post on here scare you. I joined this forum two weeks after I bought a new 2007 F150 with a 5.4. After reading post after post...I thought I made a big mistake. No! That truck now belongs to my son, has 150,000 mile on it and it was probably the best vehicle I ever had. I now have 20,000 on my 2015 F150 with the 2.7. It's been flawless and it's fun to drive...and it will kick the snot out of the 5.4 in a race. We also have a 5.0 at work that I think the 2.7 can easily hang with!

YES, you should avoid the 2.7 at all costs if you:

1) Don't like over-achieving engines
2) Don't like engines that reward the driver's inputs....efficiency when driven as such, power when driven as such
3) Don't like engines that outperform other engines twice it's size
4) Love to do messy, difficult oil changes
5) Like to brag about how big your engine is
6) Wish to have ringing ears & a head ache after long trips
7) Aren't interested in the look on your friend's face after a ride when you tell them it's a 2.7L V6.

This is an amazing forum with tons of excellent tips and information.........but, folks do have the inevitable issues with these trucks. A forum like this can make it seem the problems are more common than they really are, and can drive you crazy. Enjoy the truck! I love my 2.7. 15k with zero issues.

I had a 2015 Super Cab 4X4 with the 2.7L Eco Boost i had 20,600 some miles on it when i got rid of it on August 21,never had one lick of engine trouble.I did have a CEL come on and it ended up being the blocking valve in the fuel tank other then that no problems.I have a 2017 STX Super Crew 4X4 now with the 3.5L Eco Boost and 10 speed automatic but FWIW the 2.7L Eco Boost in the 2015 just seemed more fun to drive and more responsive, don't know why but IMO true.I think a lot of it's the way the new 10 speed skips gears. It will shift through all the gears but only when running it hard.

Default 2.7

So far at 3500 miles the engine in a lariat is 23.9 mpg which indicates an efficient setup with the 6sp. My engine.. is pretty healthy. To nit pick a little, i wish it was a little quieter when on a cold start up. I had a 5.3 gm and at 36k when cold it started with a couple cyl piston slap until the pistons expanded enough in the bores to quiet down. At 75k it sounded like Thor under the hood for five minutes on a cold day. Started using oil around 80k.

The 2.7 has four cams, two chains, 24 valves all ticking away when it starts.. in comparison, the quietest engine i ever had was a 1751 cc honda accord '82. Iron block and hand fitted pistons in each cyl and a timing belt.

I have rebuilt three ford engines. A 2.3 in a mustang ii and two 289s. Ford has a capability to build the worst and the best... lets hope the 2.7 ends up on the high end of things...

I'm at 37k trouble free miles on my 2015 2.7 SCrew 4x4 and I'm constantly amazed at how this engine out preforms the 3.0 Vulcan in my old Ranger in every single metric. 10/10 would buy again.

I'll admit the little 2.7L is an amazing little engine. Just drove 1200 miles towing 4k lbs cargo trailer with three adults on board. Fuel economy is decent while towing and there's no lack of power when hitting the mountain grades and for acceleration/passing.

Where are the posts with "lots of people having issues"? I check these forums often and while there might have been an issue or two that some people have had, I sure can't remember 'a lot' or a consistent issue that have several have had. Mine has been nothing but awesome.
