Shocking Bad Gas Mileage 3.5 Liter
#21
If you're driving 75 mph and up a bunch of hills your mileage is not going to be good 75 mph and in boost and uphill= bad mileage!!!I My last tank was 19.1 mpg calculator figured truck said 19.5 mpg 2017 XL STX Super Crew 4x4 3.5L Eco Boost 3.55 gears and 10 speed auto but I live in Ohio not many hills!!

I think the only thing to be taken from this thread is that fuel economy on the 3.5 ecoboost varies WILDY, due to a whole myriad of factors. It really is crazy reading the difference in results from one guy to another.
14.7 mpg on the lie-o-meter
Roughly 80% city driving with a ton of idling in crappy Puget Sound traffic. 6" lift, 35x11.5 69lb. tires, 4.11 gears, 5500 miles.

Can't compare a 3.5EcoBeast to a 5.3nogutsnoballs. Completely different engines. I also expected better and now I think most people are bragging by what their lie-o-meter says or they are just plain lying about their mpg's. I learned to accept my mpg's and let the truck be a truck and it does that very well. It's a tow beast. I think everyone on these forums should mandatory be on http://www.fuelly.com/dashboard so we can check their honesty. When I first got the truck, it was consistently around 13 mpg.

Old Fart
Currently 2800 miles on the beast. 14.5 mpg hand calculated - mostly city driving and trips that are around 4 miles max on flat ground. Speed limit 35 mph to 50 mph. And lots of stop lights with A.S.S. engaged. Ambient air temp from 32 deg F to 50 deg F currently. That is what kills mpg for me.

Winter blend fuel isn't helping either.

It’s pretty simple. Keep your RPMs below 1500 and you’ll get the mileage you want. Running 70 and you won’t do that.
My first couple of tanks, I averaged 16 as I drove like I normally do, accelerating quickly, doing 10-15 over the speed limit, changing lanes often, etc (like an ***hole). Most recent tank, decided to slow down a bit, cruise at 5 over the limit, keep to the right lane, etc (old man). I’m averaging 20.8.
Your choice. Enjoy the new truck. I am.

The funny part is someone nailed it already, you get ECO or Boost never both. First rental I had with 2.7 driving as easy as possible 2 mpg better. Start enjoying just a little same mpg as my 5.0. Start using all that down low torque everyone loves expect 10 mpg. My 5.0 with 3.73 driving fun is at 16 mpg, if I want to be easy on it I can see 20 mpg. No free lunch you got to pay to play. These trucks don’t ever pencil in as cheap; pick the one you like and never look back.
