Not sure why Ford would require the manufacture to paint the parts that are bare metal. I realize it's just cosmetic, but who wants to look at a $64K Platinum F150 that has rust all over the drivetrain.

Go ahead and charge me to paint it. What's another $100 in the price of these trucks.

Just my $.02

Actually, I was surprised at the amount of paint coverage on the undercarriage of my truck. The frame, axles, and all front and rear suspension parts on my truck have a nice coating of shiny black paint. The only rust I could find was on the U-Joints and front driveshaft and I gave them a coating of Fluid Film. My rear driveshaft appears to be aluminum, no rust. That being said, the truck has not been exposed to road salt yet. Maybe the early build date trucks weren't coated as well? My build date is September 2015.

Just surface rust, happens on all vehicles as its metal exposed to the elements.

It's amazing how upset people get, let me guess your old vehicle was a car?

OP: that looks excessive for a new truck. Here's what my '15 XLT April build looks like 10 months later, just for a comparison. I live 2 blocks from sal****er.

Lots of arguments both ways, which I'm not going to get into because I'm not a metallurgy expert. I only want to support the OP's concern about a new truck looking like that. I wouldn't care for it either.

Mine looked exactly the same way the day I brought it home from the dealership (also next to the ocean), and I even had my mechanic buddy look at the truck and he said its wasn't anything to be concerned about (believe me if it was he would of told me to bring it right back).

Just s***ty when you spend good money on something and it's looking like that straight from factory.

PA salts the crap out of their roads and my truck hasn't gotten like that yet. My old 94 Ranger, I would spray her belly at the beginning of the summer once I washed it a couple times to make sure all the winter crap was out from under her.

Here is a shot of mine. It looks like there is some minor rust starting on the rear axle where there was a thinner application of paint. I'll have to touch it it up and fluid film it.
Note the shiny aluminum drive shaft versus the steel pictured in the other trucks here in this thread. I wonder whats up with that?

I don't mind painting mine, just don't think I should have to paint rusted drivetrain parts on a New truck. I don't think its acceptable for quality control to state that this is ok.

What's the purpose of an Aluminum body when all your drive train is covered in rust.

Simply put Ford should not accept parts from a supplier in this condition.
