SCT BDX for 5.0 2018
Just about to nail down a tuner but figured i'd see if anyone has had experience with the 2018-2019 F150 5.0L V8 SCT/BULLY DOG BDX WITH CHOICE OF 5 STAR CUSTOM TUNES 40470 40490? I also get my choice of 3 tunes included. Anyone have experience with their selections of 87/89/93 Performance/Tow or Performance Only tunes? I do not tow with this truck other than the occasional 800lb john boat haul to the ramp. This is an everyday driver that I already put premium gas in.
Here is the link to where I plan to buy. I was recommended by Five Star to go with the SCT version instead of the bully dog. https://5startuning.com/product/2018...s-40470-40490/

Tuned my 16 5.0 with the 93 perf and while there wasn't a huge increase in power, the improved drive-ability and shifting made it worth it. I imagine on the 10 speed 5.0, the drive ability and shifting will even better.
Not a pissing contest but 5 star is the only tuning company I'll go with and I've tried a few.

Go with the SCT version. I went with the 87-89 perf/tow and 93 perf. Difference between perf/tow and perf is night and day. At least on my 3.5 Eco. I can pass in 10th gear on the highway.

I have a 17 3.5 ECO ( SCT BDX & 5 Star tunes) and have tried the 93 performance, 93 Perf/tow, 87 Perf, 87 Perf/tow, and 87 Economy. The 93 performance is pretty amazing especially in SPORT mode. I accidentally squealed the tires at 40 passing a slow dump truck the other day. It is strong enough you actually have to be a little careful. It holds gears longer so it's ready to run but does eventually get to 10th gear for cruising. Performance/Tow is similar but slightly reduced power and softer shifts. The 87 tunes are comparable but with reduced power. They are more like stock that you just woke up. IMO 87 perf/tow is how Ford should have made it from the factory.
Now that I've gotten a little better about not gunning it off the line, I'm testing the 93 perf/tow in terms of normal driving - 250 miles mixed hwy/city shows me at 18 mpg (so hand calculated would probably be 17). Once this tank is dry I'm going to test 87 economy tune for mpg.

I went with 93 perf only, 93 perf/tow, and the same two Configs in 89.
I tested the 93 perf only first for a week until yesterday. I never floored it because of what it felt like at half or just past half throttle. It was quite a fun driver for a while. Not sure if I want that to be my normal set up but that depends on what I think of the others.
Since yesterday I’ve had the 93 perf/tow on and really like it so far. Shifting is nice, and I feel more power and grunt in the rpms I’m usually driving in, the low side. Someone was right about the night and day difference between the perf only and perf/town.
In a week or two I will probably do the 89 perf/tow then make a decision on which one I want to soak in.

If I was going to stick with 93 I’d do the perf/tow as my daily driver. I’ve pretty much settled on 87 perf/tow as my daily. I ran 87 economy and stock for a few days just comparing mpg and so it didn’t feel like a let down compared to 93.
Compared to stock 87 Per/tow has noticeable extra punch and throttle response.

Curious also if anyone else was able to correct speedo at the additional oftions(forget what it’s called) menu that appears in the tuning process? The first time I put the 93 perf only on I changed my tire size at that menu and it didn’t change anything for my speedemotoer after the tune nor did my tire size under vehicle info. I had to do it from the special functions tab on the menu after the tune was installed and that worked like a charm.

I’ve changed tunes directly and going back to stock first. I didn’t notice any difference. I adjusted my speedometer with Forscan so it’s exactly right no matter what tune I’m running.
