Default Rust on brand new truck

i just bought a 2018 F150 XLT that had 20 some miles on it. They drove it down from a dealership 100 miles away for me, so it had 120 when i drove it off the lot. is it normal to have rust underneath already? i understand its production date was in Feb 2018 and i bought it last week so its obviously been sitting somewhere. but there is rust.. just want to make sure if i need to have the dealer do something or not.

Totally normal my dude. I'm 11 months into owning my '18 F-150 (my first Ford ever) and I had rust all over my rear diff. within the first week while just sitting in my driveway. I was pretty annoyed and disappointed to see that Ford finds that as acceptable. They have all this fancy technology, but can't adequately protect the undercarriage area from corrosion. My 2016 Silverado had no rust after two MI winters. Only solution is to paint it yourself...

Cast iron rusts. Always has and always will. Not a problem at all. Every vehicle I owned the differential was rusted but most people never know since its not as easy to see on most cars. It will never rust out.

I use to work in a factory and we had to go as far as registering spray paint cans and I think it was an epa thing.

I don’t think it’s because car manufacturers are cheap or not wanting to paint certain parts. It’s probably an environtal thing.

That or they don’t want to commit to warranty repainting undercarriages..

Nothing more than common surface rust on steel and cast iron parts.
