Running board ideas
#21
The ones that don't last are the fake ones Ford puts on. They say they are AMP, but they aren't as far as I can tell. Nothing on AMP site talks about any partnership with Ford at all and nothing I can find anywhere from either company talks about one. I believe they are purposefully misleading people to believe they are AMP when they are only "Like" AMP. I have heard few, if any, true AMP step owners with major issues. These things have a 5yr/60,000 mile warranty on them. I have had to use them once, for a non issue, and they were VERY responsive. That being said, you have to take care of them like anything else. They need to be cleaned and lubed occasionally. You do that, however, and you can't go wrong. These things tuck up above the frame level as well, at least on my truck (no body lift) and I would have to be rock crawling to even come close to these things. The only other way they will contact is if I am sitting deeper than the frame. Great thing, as compared to tube type steps as well, each side of these are 3 different components (1 motorized hinge, 1 non-motorized hinge, the running board) so if you were to damage it you don't have to replace the whole side, just the parts(s) that were damaged. Here is a recent pic. If I didn't tell you they were there you wouldn't know. I have several people that ask me how they are gonna get in even and I simply tell them to open the door and try. You should see the look on their face.
Actually that link might not come up right if your on a phone. It's easily found that they are manufactured for ford under amp licensing

I did see the page, however, and actually found that one about 1.5 years ago, but ford was using them as well and they weren't on the site. To my fault, I didn't check it again this time to see it had been updated. Thanks for the new info.

Actually, manufactured under license means that AMP has given Ford permission to manufacture their steps and call them AMP. They are using AMP theory, but that in no way, means they are using AMP quality and care. I just know all the ones I have seen hanging down were the Ford ones. I am going through my chrome delete project right now and next week I am planning on removing my chrome side steps. Does anyone have any ideas of something I can do to make them black (without looking cheesy or cheap)? Or is buying some RCI or nice off-road steps worth it?
This is what I have chosen ICI boards

AMPs boards are great, but I did my research and Ford's rendition are regarded as just as good. Everyone wins.

I am aware of how licensing works. And trust me...I own a 2015...I'm aware of fords quality(lack there of rather)....I would go so far as to say that amp gave ford the design and ford farms it out to some Chinese company. I have the factory power steps and they are great compared to static step bars. I expect them to last quite well on my truck as it will never be beaten off road and we don't get much snow 'round here. I'm also planning on trading to something else in 18. This is the first truck that I've ever just liked, not loved and is by far the most expensive I've ever bought

Well most companies don't hang around too long sacrificing their name to quality so I'm sure Ford has to meet certain standards. Plus why would Ford voluntarily put problem prone accessories on their latest trucks?
