Default Rough Country 3” vs 4”

Just bought an ‘18 Lariat. Trying to decide between the RC 3” or the 4”, possibly 5”. Is it worth the extra $$ for 1 to 2 inches? Please comment if you have either of these set ups. How do you like it? What size tire are you using? Also, I’ll be upgrading the tires, but running my factory 20’s for a while. Thanks!

I don’t know if they make a 3 inch lift, maybe a level. Level and lift is a huge difference. If you have the money, do it right and get a real lift kit. 4 inch lifts will still fit in parking garages, 5 and 6 inch lifts probably won’t fit in parking garages.

as far as running stock rims, you won’t be able to get a very wide tire, unless you add spacers, which some people say is dangerous.
I have done 2 inch level, 5 inch rough country lift and 6 inch rough country lift with spacers.

I just had the Rough Country 3" lift installed this weekend. So far, I am very pleased with it. It's a good fit between a leveling kit and a full lift kit. When you start getting into 4" lift and above kits, there is cutting, drilling, modifying, etc. needed to install it. I liked that the 3" lift did not need any modifications and can be returned to stock if I ever desired to do so. My post about my lift is found here: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/3-rou...talled-423901/

It would be a real shame to have to take a cutting torch or saw to that brand new frame, rendering it 100% nonreversible. That was my thinking anyway, so I did the 3” RC kit. Love it. And I can still fit in most parking garages.

Thanks for the input! My main concern with the 3” is having weird angles.

yea, time will tell. I only use 4wd in the winter, don’t off road...so not worried about it. Just FYI, ReadyLift and Tuff Country also make 3”kits, so RC isn’t the only game in town. My gut tells me the angles are okay, not ideal, but okay, and with three players offering them. The kits have been around for a while and there are plenty of them installed, we would be hearing about failures if they were occurring. Forums bring out the best and worst of every mod.

How did you like the RC 5 and 6 inch? Was the ride rough? Would you buy again?

Ether buy a 2” level or a proper suspension lift (drop brackets). Anything in the middle is an overpriced level kit and a compromise. You will be wearing ball joints, TRE, & CV in regular fashion. Your warranty won’t cover them since it’s been modified.

Question, why do people go out and spend a ton of money for a nice truck, then put one of the cheapest lift kits on they make? Does the extra $500-$900 spent on a better lift put everyone over the top or what? Just curious.

Y’all can call it what you want...glorified level, cheap lift, whatever. I have no problem spending the extra money, the issue (in case you didn’t read the threads above) is that 4-6” lifts require you to cut the frame, sorry, not chopping up my $50k frame. I’ll replace my boots and cv’s a couple times if necessary.

@Mb1500, no extra wear on the ball joints, that’s why these kits give you new UCA’s. For the cv’s, I have a pavement queen, no worries here. Feel free to post some failures from the 3” RC kit on 15-18 F150 and I’ll go away quietly.
