Default rode hard and put up wet 900 miles today

Short on time and daughter needed some things taken to her at college so went 900 miles today and took her out to lunch with her friends then drove back home. Cyclone 3.5na motor did great. 4 months old with 16,000 miles. Slight delay when stopped for speeding 70 in 60 with out of state plates for a warning. Barely used any of my 2nd tank of gas getting home. Only needed 4 more gallons

That is some serious driving, not to mention 16K in 4 months. Your going to hit close to 50K in a year. I wish I had the 36 gallon tank I would have used 2 full tanks.

I remember you posting in some milage post about how you were going to hit 210k in like 2 years and thought you were crazy....seems like you are on the way though

You should start a milage thread for when you hit significant numbers. I am thinking you are going to be putting the miles on faster than most, and passing those who already have a head start. I would be interested to see what issues you run into even though every truck seems to be a little different.

with the other daughter going to Alabama next year, I will really start putting miles on if I go to some of the games (Roll Tide?) A long way from Chicago. It is about 750 miles each way (one tank of gas each way) I still have my 2006 with 300,000 miles on it. Filling this tank with 33 gallons at one stop just takes forever. I chickened out early instead of burning 2 more gallons in a rural area at night. The little 3.5na will run as fast as you dare. I only got 18.5 but I was running hard. --- one last thing, change your cabin air filters at 10,000 miles, mine was filthy at 15,000 as was the air filter and I don't run any unpaved roads up here.

KEVININCHICAGO, it would be fun to do a Blackstone-type oil analysis comparison between your 3.5 NA and a similar mileage 3.5 Ecoboost. I'm curious as to what the differences in wear materials would be as well as fuel dilution present (since the Eco is direct injection).

Hey what rear axle do you have, the 8.8" or 9.75"? I was under my truck yesterday and noticed I have the 9.75"...

inside my exhaust looks brand new, no color at all. I have the 8.8 3.73 axle. I think if you order FX4 you automatically get the 9.75 axle due to the locking axle. The 8.8 has electric parking brake, the 9.75 has the pedal. 4.10 would be perfect for the 3.5na motor. The 8.8 can't be any worse than my last 9.75 axle that I had to rebuild 4 times in 300,000 miles. I could not keep bearings in it that did not pit and make noise until the last rebuild. I don't have time for downtime so I hope this truck can take it. Hopefully with the elimination of limited slip clutch packs and the elimination of worn clutch material floating around in the gear oil, the axle should live a long time.

I just looked under mine to confirm, but it's definitely the 12-bolt trapezoidal-shaped differential and not the 10-bolt more square version that I understood to be the 8.8". Guess I should check the axle tag and get a picture of it!

This seems to indicate what the thread on F150 axles concluded: Ford installed 9.75" and 8.8" axles on trucks that we didn't think would get them. Mine has the electronic parking brake and it's not the FX4 package...

Excited to see how the miles go for your truck, KEVININCHICAGO, and I think you're right about this setup being low maintenance.

Why the miles rack up:
6 days a week 40 miles each way to my shop = 80 minimum daily x 6 = 480.
20 miles each day at work for business x 6 = 120
As a business owner, I have to pick up repair parts, bank, errands, refuel about 20 miles each night x 6 = again another 120.
Sundays, church and errands = 75 miles.
So far about 800 miles a week.
I run trucks from my shop in about a 250 mile radius of Chicago. If I have to chase one down or get one back in service I can easily add up more miles. Kids in out of state colleges really rack up the miles if we go visit them.
