Yuup, I know a great aluminum welder and he told me a good weld is stronger than the surrounding metal

I know a great welder too and I wish he was doing the weld. I am actually gonna contact the dealership today and see who is doing the work or if they are subbing it out.

Hopefully someone TIG welds it and it will never split again in that same spot.
(Drill a hole at the end of the split so it does not open up as its welded)

Looks like the door was opened too far and the strap pulled on the door jam like it's designed to do. Has the wind caught this door a few times? Or passenger throw it open? I've seen it on trucks at work all the time. No fault of anyone, and definitely not a huge safety concern. Just get it patched up and start watching the wind.

Nope...... Had the damage occurred post build, there would be bare aluminum visible along the torn edge.

I suppose it could have been done after delivery and then painted without actually repairing it. That should be able to be figured out.

i hope a door smacked open by a wind gust would NOT result in a cracked pillar....

I'd assume that would just bend the **** out of the bracket and warp the pillar/door.

yeah - if even that. In my older BMW a nasty windhust smacked the door open like a sail and aside from LOTS of pillar flexing ... no damage.

If the aluminum would crack - they should have reinforced that area...
