Retrax Pro MX question
#81
Spoke with my dealer and he quoted the Retrax Pro MX installed at $2145 (SCrew 5.5' bed). Looking through this thread that seems a little high. Yes, I know I can order one for $1,767 from autoanything and install it myself but it is worth it to me to pay extra for a professional install and for the loss of time and frustration that will ultimately occur. Anyone else feel like sharing what they paid for theirs and/or think that this is a reasonable price? Thanks in advance

I got mine for $1,512 shipped to MI, but that was prior to the price increase. Call truckchamp.com and I bet you can talk them into a lower price than the $1,767 advertised price. I emailed Autoanything.com and they would not match or reduce their price at ALL. That's why truckchamp.com got my business and will continue to do so. And I was a previous Autoanything customer, too.
There was a price increase from Retrax ~2 months ago. You can't get it for $1,500 anymore like you used to be able to.

My gate will NOT open if the cover is closed. The cover pressure is just enough to prevent the gate from dropping after you hit the gate release. It takes a little help, not much and not a big deal but you do need a free hand.

My gate will power open when the cover is closed. If the cover is new it may take a few weeks for the weatherstrips to settle in. Otherwise you can adjust the rear rails up just a tad so the gate will open and still maintain a waterproof seal.

I've had mine a while just a bit too much pressure from that weather striping. After hearing the story about the guy with the garage door, I think I'm gonna leave mine alone. Lol

I'm in the process of getting the tailgate fixed. A couple of new parts and a quick paint job on the plastic surround. Good thing I have a buddy who runs a body shop

No way in hell I'd pay to have the Retrax Pro MX installed. I have one leg (amputee) and I did it myself in under 1 hour with the ONLY help needed being a second person to help me pick up the cylinder (with the rails attached) and place it @ the front of the truck bed. There are literally 6 screws (two for each rail to cylinder connection and two to hold down the front cover to the cylinder). Plop it into the bed, adjust width using embedded plastic ***** (wrench provided, but my cover required no adjustment at all) and install the four clamps to hold it to the bed. Done.

$1574 is the new price shipped and they said that they would throw in the weather stripping for free. Your post pushed me over the edge and I won't pay $1700 for the cover & install if it is as easy as you say. Thanks! Ordering mine today... now I just need the truck to come in... I'm stuck in the "IN TRANSIT" mode.
I am still pondering on this cover for my F150. My main concerns are weight, and the space this thing takes up in the front. It's either go all out and get the PowerTrax Pro or just keep it simple and go with the Extang Solid Fold 2.0.
Looking through the thread seems like you all went with the Retrax Pro MX.... The main reason I am thinking on the power version is the fact there is no lock on the top. How does this lock work? Does it stay locked all the time and you use the key for a one time open or turn key one way and stays unlocked and then the other to lock?
I have emailed Retrax but they take days to respond. They answered my first question on the weight of these covers because you can't seem to find this info anywhere. They told me the RetraxPro is around 95lbs and the rails are 20lbs. The second ? still waiting on answer is on the power version. How motor works geared or not, locks, and if goes south what do you do to open the cover just start removing the motor/gear box?
The new truck came with a drop in bed liner and fixing to remove it and go with bedtred or line-x and then I will make a move on a tonneau cover for the truck.

Just put one in on Wednesday. Did it myself. Not the powered one but standard MX. The latch is a push-down button with a back up key to lock when total protection is needed.
