If anyone bought the 2018 edition, I’ll split the cost with you. I’m all for pirating a pirate.

It's 8000 pages and based on the VIN number of your vehicle, it will be specific to your engine. Which means one manual does not contain various engines.

Hope that helps.
Whichmanual did you get?

If anyone has a 2016 field service manual with the clickable links I'd be happy to split the cost with you

I bought a bootleg manual off Ebay and none of the links are clickable. That said it's ok for typical "shade tree work" just a pain if you have to hop back and forth. I'll go to the Helms site and get the 72 hour access to the genuine manual with all the TSBs if I need more details.

i did, but honestly its not pirating, by definition this site is providing a service

your corner quick-e-mart does not "make" soda or any of the snacks and candies that they sell, they provide the service of bringing it closer to you, this is called paying for convenience.

this site sets up a account for your vin through motorcraft service and downloads the entire library on your truck compiles it into a searchable PDF for you, no they didn't create anything, but they did provide the service of compiling it for you

if you want to pirate something i would say look elsewhere these manuals are for your exact truck, i just got mine and have not looked much at it but what i have looked at i am very pleased
17,771 pages 863 Mb of information, so unless your model is exactly the 2018 XLT 3.5 max tow special edition that mine is, getting a copy of my manual will not help much.

it annoys me to no end when people make little of the labor that it takes to do things

That hidden information, cannot be deleted, sir. And in that information is your complete name, email address. When Ford CO will take that file from you, they will know who is the guy who break the copyright law.

So, if you send to other peoples the file, finally all the copies will indicate a single person. You, sir.
yeah sorry i have a master in cyber security and 20 years experience i can guarantee that i can remove your "hidden" information, regardless, as you pointed out the information is covered by ford for use by me so...

although i have no problem with your trying to make a profit off of providing a service as i stated in another post which is LEGAL, because the source material is NOT YOURS you have no legal right over them, and covering the same law that you are using if i choose to distribute my copy to others as long as i am not trying to pass my copy off as my own work and do not charge for the file only charge a convenience fee for providing access then i am perfectly legal.

and if enough people decide to do that FORD would close the loophole by making it impossible for you to operate since that is the source of the material being let out,

so what you are really worried about is manufactures reprising on you for us legally sharing the information because it could cut into their revenue for the support services they enjoy...

Just an observation: From reading most or maybe all of the thread, I think that Stefan is not claiming the copyright. In an earlier post he warned that Ford might take offense for violation of Ford's copyright, and that the "hidden information" is Ford's information, not that of Stefan's company. He wasn't suggesting that any action would be taken by his company to enforce copyrights. He was just warning of a possible risk that Ford might take offense.

I don't claim to know who owns what rights. I believe, though, that U.S. law might give Stefan's company a copyright for the unique compilation (but not the material itself, just the format). From what I gather, Stefan's company gets your permission (akin to a power of attorney) to create your short-term account in your name, legally downloads your manual for you, then reformats it for you to fit your unique vehicle's VIN specifications. I don't think that Stefan suggested his own company would consider taking any action for possible copyright violations.

Anyway, I ordered the deluxe manual. I haven't received it yet, but from what others have said I think it's well worth the price if it meets its promise. I've got a deluxe (Platinum?) Ford extended warranty with 35,000 miles remaining, so I only need it to inform myself before speaking with the dealer service rep. For me, it's worth the price for that purpose alone, plus the rare, minor modification I might handle on my own.

Default Clarity

Copyright law gives Stefan no coverage for compiling material that is copyrighted by another, the way that it is done can be considered intellectual property. however the Final product retains no ownership of any kind by his company. Regardless of these facts what I was upset about was what I perceive as threatening speech upon the discussion of help with another forum member.

As I stated Ford cannot prosecute us for sharing the information contained in these files without also prosecuting Stefan's company and probably a bunch of dealerships for sharing previously downloaded information. And even then because they have never prosecuted this before after years of them knowing about this kind of activities they would never win because having a copyright also means you have to try and enforce it as soon as you find out about a violation, if you don't try and enforce it then the copyright can be invalidated by failure to enforce. Ford would be on an uphill battle they would never want to even partake in because then they would lose ownership over a good chunk of their copyrights if they lost.

As a final note I bought the deluxe edition for my vehicle as well. Something that I am very happy with, but that doesn't excuse his what I feel is threatening people in the forum for discussing sharing the information contained within the files.
