Removing graffiti from paint
#21
I do not own laquer thinner. I can stop by Home Depot and pick some up. Would it be in the paint section?
Also, would the bug and tar remover work for this? I have some of that on hand.
Either way, I assume I should thoroughly wash the paint with soapy water after it is removed, correct?

After you get the graffiti off, wash it thoroughly with soap and water followed by wax.

I work at a body shop. I remove graffiti or road paint 2-3 times a month with laquer thinner. With no ill effects to fully cured clear(ie factory clear) The only way it will soften clear is If you soak the rag and leave it on there for awhile. If you soften the clear, you're doing it wrong. If you take it to a body shop like some are suggesting, laquer thinner is exactly what they will use

Would WD-40 or Bug and Tar remover work as well? Would they be gentle on the clear coat?
I already have those on-hand but I can get the laquer thinner if necessary. Thanks for the advice.

You might be right, when I got the paint on my truck it could be laquer thinner didn't work and I went to reducer. It might have been the reducer that softned the clear coat.
