removing active grill shutters
I am getting my "new" 2016 F150 Lariat 5.0 at the end of February and I was wondering were to build in my LED light bar. I would like to have it behind the grill as I have now on my 2013 F150. Is there a technical issue when taking the active grill shutters out?

It throws a DTC but doesn't illuminate the CEL. Removing the shutters is required for the installation of the intercooler replacements too.
That said, the shutters do benefit you from a fuel economy and a time-to-warmup perspective. You could also consider one of the more minimal grille guards/bumper replacements that allow light mounting.

If I have to choose between 1% less fuel economy or better light, the choise is easy. Lights al the way. I do around 8000Miles per month so the benefit of more light is more important for me. As I get the new model now which should be more fuel economic anyway.
I will have a look in the Forscan thread.

Why would you even consider to remove the shutters? Besides a little better fuel economy it helps to get your engine up to operating temperature a lot quicker which prolongs engine and cat life.
If your Lariat doesn't have the OEM LED headlights I would upgrade to those, a better choice in my opinion.

If you have the 5.0 why not use the opening in the bumper. The opening for the intercooler is just a hole plugged by plastic trim in trucks with the 5.0. I wouldn't mess with the shutters. Ford intended to use them just for Ecoboost engines for fuel economy. But testing showed the greatest benefit was better thermal management so they made them standard on all engines. The engine and fluids warm faster after cold starts. In mild temperatures the shutters are rarely fully opened during cruise. In cold weather the shutters are usually closed and the computer uses the electric fans to keep the engine cool. Another benefit I've noticed is the reduced amount of bugs in the condenser/radiator. So this means that even on hot summer evenings when bugs are swarming the shutters are not fully opened when cruising.

I am looking to do the same thing as I'm adding the paramount raptor grill and hoping when I get the shutters off the old grill I can manage to get a bar in there between the raptor grill and the shutters. I went with a single row thin bar it's only about 2.5" deep so might be able to get it in. But I can't change the grill as it's been below zero lately here in Jersey with the wind chill.

When I use My F150 it is for 8 to 12 hours in a row without turning it off. So I only have 1 cold start per day. I have the LED lightbar with double row now on my 2013 in combination with the Vision X 6.7″ Light Cannon lights and would like to have these again on the 2016.
