Regrets on Bakflip rolling - wish I would have bought solid fold
#11
I'm on my second Extang Solid Fold 2.0. The first one leaked and it was replaced under warranty. This one leaks also, so I'm just keeping it with the leaks. Both covers leaked in the middle where the two panels are hinged together. I put a negative review of the cover on the Extang website and it never showed up in the reviews. After that I realized why all the reviews were great since the negative reviews weren't posted.

All -
At the risk of starting yet another "toneau" thread - I thought I'd share that I've had the bak x2 roll-up cover on my bed for about one year.
I regret buying this cover. It has been water tight and does provide me full access to the bed; however, it is so easy to get into - I regret I don't have much security.
Many of you have hard folding with a similar cable release at the tailgate. This literally takes 2 seconds to break into with a long-ish screw driver.
for the same money - I could have had the solid fold 2.0 - which, sits on the bed rails, and clamps very secure. Also - you can put weight on it.
For those of you that have folding toneau....and didn't select sold fold - what am I missing?
- I do understand it does not provide access to the full bed. Competitors do; but, you cannot see out the back window in this mode.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom....at the moment, I'm pretty sure I'd like to switch.

Sure. Same rules apply. If I had things I didn't want to bring in the restaurant I'd make the decision to skip the sit down and get drive thru. It's really very simple. Most likely your truck will be fine for 30 minutes while you eat, but things still happen. Can't be pissed at anyone but yourself if valuables get stolen from your vehicle.

Your view that it is somehow my fault for having "stuff" is weird. So, if your home is burglarized - is it also your fault for having a nice TV? When bad actors do bad things it's their fault. Period.
We can do things to help discourage bad actors from acting on OUR stuff - which is the whole reason I posted. How do I make the vehicle more secure?
Obviously a vehicle isn't a vault. However, there are varying degrees of security. A cover is more secure than no cover. A locking cover is more secure than a cover than one that doesn't lock.
There are times we need to take our stuff places. That is by default less secure than not taking our stuff places. I want to have the most secure option on my vehicle.
To answer the other question - Yes, I've had my vehicle burglarized on a road trip - and "no"....it wasn't because I left valuables in sight.
Nice cars tend to have nice luggage. Aspiring burglars should burgle where the wealth is.
@rocroane - the sum total of my years has taught me NOT to have faith in most of humanity. If your experience is better, count yourself lucky.

I’m the opposite. I started with the Solid Fold 2.0 and ended up with the Bak Revolver X2. The Solid Fold leaked bad. After two replacements leaked the same way, I got a refund and bought the X2. I’ve been happy with the X2. It works for my needs. It’s true, the latch is vulnerable to thieves. I remember a thread a long time ago about a mod someone did to the cable release to prevent theft, but I can’t remember what it was.

Am I missing something here?
I live in an upscale neighborhood when a few years ago we had thugs that would do a quick smash-and-grab to our vehicles via the side windows. We just quit locking the vehicles. Much cheaper than replacing truck windows, if you get my point.
As far as the bed; The bad boys just pop the door latch out or bust the side window, reach in and hit the unlock button to electrically open the tailgate. Then they are in the bed no matter what tonneau or hardcover you have.
I'm a proponent of a locking tool box. It can still be defeated, but takes longer.

End of of the day, if someone wants in your truck they are gonna get in it so you have to be prepared for the inevitable to happen one day.

Had a Solid fold on last truck and hated it. Leaked and didn't like the look of it either sitting on top of the rails. Got the X2 this time and love it. Seen people have issue with it in winter but I never have. Is they want to break in bad enough they will, no matter what you have.
If you look there are not too many people that are unhappy with the X2.
By the sound of it you would be better off with a leer fiberglass if you are worried that much, even those can be broken into if they want.
I have had one of those also and loved the look of it but hated that if I needed to haul anything I had to remove it and it was a P.I.T.A

Thanks for mentioning this fix as I think I will apply it. I like my Revolver X2. I didn't want a tri-fold since they completely block the rear window when fully open.
