I think this should be escalated and let the investigative reporters on your local news look into this. It probably wouldn't hurt to contact your Senator or Congressman to investigate.

Happened to me once, except it was $27. I just paid it, because I felt like a good deal in repeat business would be more than making the sales manager remember me when I came back because of this..

Mistakes happen.

BUT, then again, There have been times a dealer OVERCHARGED for it, and of course, pocketed the overage. Only once in my trading experience did I get a refund for like $20.

Your call.

As with any legit bill you get in the mail, pay it. I had a bank tell me the wrong pay-off amount one time on a trade in. Well the dealer sent me a bill for $200 some odd dollars for the difference. It wasn't the dealers fault. I called them and asked about it, then sent them my check.

Which is what I said in my earlier post, seems the reading comprehension of several folks is lacking.

Where I am in NY it happens all of the time. Most dealers have stated up front that it is only an estimate and there would either be a bill or partial refund. In fact, on December 30, 2017, my wife and I both bought vehicles at a dealership. I got a bill for $45 for my registration, which they don't send until you pay. My wife got a check for $70 AND her registration 2 days after I got my bill. I just asked the salesman why they didn't my $45 out of her overage and send them both, he never replied. It's probably tough to estimate in NY, the state changes the plate fees, weight fees and title fees regularly.

I pretty much always negotiate out the door pricing giving them my county of residence so they can arrange the numbers any way they want. In my case I wouldn't consider paying as they are free to charge what they want, add fees wherever they like, basically do anything they want so long as I pay an exact price out the door.

If I were paying a negotiated price for a vehicle that did not include fees, taxes, interest, whatever, I'd consider it my obligation to pay for an honest mistake on a government fee.

Not sure if that is an insult at me. I just gave the one situation I experienced with a dealer asking for more money after the sale.

On my 2017 I bought in July, I was mistakenly overcharged for the DMV fees by the dealer since most likely used their best guestimate. In August I received a check from the dealer for a $142 and a big thank you for choosing them for my purchase. I never would have noticed and I was happy to have that extra $142. Seems to me undercharged / overcharged can work both ways. I would just pay it.
