Recall 18s27?
Just got a recall notice for my 2017 XLT. Ford recall number 18s27 carpet shielding and insulation rework. Anybody know what the deal is? |
I just saw that on my app also. Any word on what it is? There are no details. |
Could it be due to the lack of insulation around the seatbelt pretensioners causing a fire? But that'd be ALL trims and configurations. Need to check mine, but where?

Pretty sure its too much insulation and when the tensioner fires it causes an actual fire.

I have a copy of the full recall (Dealer Bulletin and Technical Instructions). However, I can not post the bulletin for confidentiality reasons. Recall includes Regular Cab & Super Crew Cab configurations built at both Dearborn and Kansas City during 2014 thru August 23, 2018. All in stock vehicles MUST be completed before delivery.
Requires the dealer to modify carpeting shielding and insulation on the B-Pillar Good news is the recall should only take about an hour and parts are obtained locally. |
I had my whole plastic trims, carpet, door panels etc. pulled on my 2017 Limited and put SoundSkinz dampening material whenever I had my truck over at MTI for a full sound-system overhaul... I wonder if I still need to do this bs. Plastic pieces already creek enough.

I remember a while ago, there were several posts here showing F150s that had burned to the ground and there was a lot of speculation as to what the cause was or if the photos were even authentic. This recall may explain a lot of those.
Any idea as to what they do for this repair? Do they remove insulation from the b-pillar or install metal shielding etc? Just curious as to what the fix is exactly. And I hope this is a fix that actually works, unlike the frozen door latch recall. Sounds like they are not addressing the cause (excessive sparks from pretensioner), but more the effect (surrounding materials). |
