Rear Seat Removal - Supercab
 

I am considering building a platform for my dog for longer trips in the truck. One possible option would be to remove the lower portion of the rear seat, behind the driver's seat. Not sure what this would entail but it appears there is only one larger "bolt" on the driver's side securing it in place, accessible after removing a phillips head screw that appears to hold the plastic trim in place.

Any counsel as to the procedure for getting this out? Any worries to doing so?

I have a similar situation with trying to haul my dog inside my Supercab. I took some heavy cardboard boxes and built a platform in the rear floorboard and on the seat. Then put one of those seat cover hammock things over it. It protects the seats, and gives him a larger flat surface than just the seat bottom... just a thought

I am just finishing the same thing to haul our 4 dogs to/from our weekend house 2 hours away. Platform is plywood covered with 2" thick foam and black upholstery vinyl. Frame is 1x2 clear pine, all painted black. Rear seats are folded up - approx. size 28" x 58". Easy to remove if needed & no modifications to the base truck. I'll post photos once done.

You have a Screw, right?

with the seats folded up on a Scab, there's not much room for an average dog to turn around in.


for reference. From my center console to the front edge of the folded up seat is only 15.5"

Sorry - you are right. Mine is a S-Crew with ~30" between the front to rear seats (folded up). On my Chevy Colorado Extended Cab I removed the rear jump seat bottoms for the platform. Our dogs range from small to mid-sized.

The SCAB rear seat is in two parts, driver side/center and passenger side. Each side is a hinged unit held in place by four bolts on the bottom and the seat back latch. The bottom cannot be removed independently of the back.

Being generally antisocial and having no interest in hauling more than three people, I have permanently removed my driver's side/center rear seat. The issue you will have removing the driver's side seat is that it will leave a very ugly center shoulder belt mount exposed and if you have a subwoofer it will be exposed. I chose to cut off the mount and upholster the rear cab wall. The grey material on the bottom is and acoustic material so as not to hinder subwoofer performance. You can't see it, but the wall material behind the light grey is heavily perforated and then covered with a fiberglass mesh (window screen) to support the acoustic material.

I can now fit very large items in the cab of the truck. Much more space back there and with the 170 degree door, much more accessible than even the crew cab.

Mine is an S-Crew, so not sure if what you are looking for but here is what mine looks like (don't mind the mess). Tops just lift off, and support frames are easily removed. I cover it with a sleeping bag or comforter for the dogs. They love it.

Thanks Mike, that's exactly what I want to do. I'll keep the smaller seat for occasional 3rd person use but I want to use the larger space for a couple of folding ebikes. An out of sight storage area is more secure.

Great idea to dress up the exposed rear wall as I'll be leaving the seat out until the end of my ownership days. Did the same with my Ranger. Took the two jump seats out when I bought it and put them in before I took it back to the dealer to trade-in.
