Default Rear seat fold up

This may be a stupid question and I did a search but came back with rear seat fold down questions, not fold up.

My rear seats fold up, but there are lift up hinges/handle underneath that don't appear to be anything? Are the seats supposed to lock down and use the handle to lift them up? I can just put my rear seats and up down without having to use the handle.

I noticed that in my 2019 as well. My 2017 it would go up and I had to use the handle to let it back down. My 2019 goes up and down without using the handle, and it has been my only issue with this truck as I put the one side up so our dog has more room, and I will look back and see a sad German Shepherd with a seat mostly down on top of him. I haven't had much time to look into it further to see if there is something not catching. My 2017 was cloth seats so maybe the 2019 with leather needs more force, I dunno.

Sorry my response doesn't help, more just that I agree with what you are seeing, hopefully someone knows for sure what the deal is.

Isn't the seats going up themselves a safety concern as well? I feel as though they should really lock down when they are down, and you should have to use the handle under the seats to release them up?

I guess not much, them folding up without a handle is intended functionality and it has never been even a blip of an issue in any crash testing. If someone is properly belted in there isn't much that could happen to the truck where the seat would be able to fold up. Maybe if you drove the truck off a cliff and had persistent freefall and the seatbelt didn't hold you in place you may be able to move enough off the seat to allow it to come up, but I suspect you have FAR bigger concerns at that point. In general though the seats require some effort to lift, and as long as any object is on the seat they wouldn't be able to come up very far, so probably not a concern.

My 16 and my 19 rear seats both lock when in the up position. The 16 had handles you needed to use to put them down and the 19 has a strap on the side you need to pull up. Both were supercrews not sure if supercabs are different.
