Default Rear end clunk

Hello all, I have a 4x4 2015 F150 with 26000 miles. For the past month I have been hearing what I can describe as a clunking noise coming from the rear end. It only occurs at very slow speeds, less then 15mph, and mainly when I go in reverse or turn a corner. I have read numerous posts online if this occurring in past models but nothing recent. I am about ready to take a major road trip need some advice on what to tell the dealer. I had a different issue last week where the dealer found a loose nut in my leaf spring and dry bearings. They fixed all that and the clunking noise seemed to go away but it's back. Any advice would be helpful.

It sounds like it could be something loose in the suspension in the rear if tightening up leaf spring bolts fixed it. They could have worked themselves back loose again. May crawl under there and see if you can locate and fix it yourself before the hassle of going to the dealer.

I just recently started having a similar issue, mine has a slight clunk most noticable when backing out of my driveway where the driveway meets the road...it happens other times as well. What nuts did they tighten? I would like to check mine.... havent had a chance to yet. Mine is a 2016. I also thought excessive axle play...as I can hear some play when shaking truck side to side. I know a little is normal.

I had a similar noise last year when I had around 7K miles on the truck. Dealer replaced the leaf springs on both sides and the noise went away. Hope this helps you narrow it down. Good luck at the dealer. Their first answer is always sounds normal or works as designed or could not replicate. Stay on them to get it fixed the first time.

Well an update on mine. Have been to the dealer twice now. They tighten things here and there and the noise goes away, but then comes back within a week. Making another trip tomorrow. Hate to think this is going to be normal.

I took mine in last week for oil change and let them know about clunk. They took it for a test drive with me and for once it actually made the noise while trying to show someone haha. Made an appointment for the 27th and they are going to spend a few hours to diagnose what it could be.

I have a great dealership and they always work until i am happy!! Ill post back my findings next week.

This may sound stupid, but it happened to me. Do you have wheel well liners? I had almost exactly what you described. Loud thunk in the rear, usually only when turning right at slower speeds.

After 2 trips to the dealer with no luck, I finally figured out it was the rear right wheel well liner (Husky). It has a small lip on the bottom that was catching on part of the frame, and would only catch when the truck flexed just right. It would make a loud thunk that you could feel under your feet when driving.

I cut that part of the lip off the liner and no more thunk.
