Default Rear camera washer...Yes please!

So I always thought it was stupid that the front camera has a washer jet on it but the rear does not. I decided to experiment with it and see what I could come up with. I know a lot of people have complained about the rear camera getting dirty. For me it wasn't really a big issue I just thought it would be a fun mod. I knew I couldn't use a normal front windshield washer nozzle because they spray upward from their mounting plane so I looked at vehicles with rear washers both wiper and camera to see if I could find something suitable. I was not willing to put to much into this so I did not want to buy 20 different nozzles to test out. This was a one or nothing venture. After some research and watching several You tube videos I settled on the rear camera jet nozzle from a 2016 Explorer part number FB5Z-17603-C. I started by mounting the jet in a large piece of cardboard and connecting it to my mityvac reservoir with water and my air compressor to pressurize and see the spray pattern and where it hit. Also on the back of the tailgate handle there is a harness with several connectors so you have to make sure you have a clear spot on the back side. With these factors in mind I decided that the hole needed to be 2 ½ inches from the center of the camera lens to the center of the jet mounting hole. I taped and marked the location on the handle. The nozzle has a squarish mounting hole so I drilled a hole about ¾ the size of the nozzle and then used a tiny stone on a dremel to slowly square it off to a perfect fit. For now I just tested it with some tubbing and it seems to work pretty good. On my next day off I will run the tubing from the front along the frame rail and up into the tailgate. These are the results:

Neat!

Kind of looks like it could have been a scootch closer to get more of the cone on the lens and perhaps a bit more pressure.

Yeah but as I said theres stuff you have to avoid on the back side. As an added bonus though it also sprays the LED light as well.

I like
Give us a report when you have a chance to test it in real world.

Fair enough. Mine is the push button so that may be a different story if I follow your lead.

Are you out of your mind? Don't you know there is no low level warning on the washer tank?

JUST A JOKE!
