Lightbulb Advice for those ordering 2016 F150

Hello guys,

Now that 2016 order book is opening up real soon, can those of you who ordered 2015 provide any advice, tips, any regrets with getting or not getting certain options? etc....

What would you do if you were to order 2016?

I'm pretty sure I've decided on the F150 myself, but I really need to see what the incentives will be, and it needs to be 2016 Xplan configurable too.

I had been following the development of the diesel twins (colorado and canyon) since last year. While I am convinced of the quality of the engine, the rest of the vehicle... not so much. Anyway, ordering just opened up for those trucks (unofficially with the diesel engine) and folks are placing orders. But they're doing it blind.

I dont wish to order blindly, so I guess I'm going to have to wait until everything becomes official. I dont even know when the Xplan switchover might occur.

Id step up another notch to the Laredo with the 502A option. Id still go 4x2 with the 3.5 ECO. Definitely the non Sony stereo but add the kicker sub. Change from drop in liner to the spray in liner.

Oh and really like the sport package just wish we could still do the chrome front grill.

No need to, PLENTY of dealers willing to order for invoice price and some will even sell for below invoice which is better than X-plan. I've talked with a couple willing to sell invoice - hold back which is around $1,800 below invoice price.

Can you provide some detail for me? I was never very good at attempting to strongarm dealers.

  • There is MSRP, which is full price (I believe it's also called "sticker").
  • There is invoice... I thought maybe that was the dealer paid, but they won't sell it for that, so it must be something else.
  • There is Xplan, which is "3% over invoice".
  • Then you have incentives, some dealer and some mfr.

So what I would expect is that if a dealer offers invoice and invoice is what he paid, it's because there are mfg incentives that bring it down to equivalent invoice for me. But I would know about those on Ford's website before I even left my house. Please correct.

In my case, I plan to special order and make use of the Incentive Protection Program to lock in incentives on the day I place my order. This would still pertain to the immediately above paragraph. But if the dealer's offering me some kind of handshake deal that doesnt relate to official incentives, I cant lock that in with the IPP. And I need to know for sure what I'm going to be paying 2 months later when my vehicle arrives.

Xplan can combine with current incentives to go below invoice if you're circling the chummed waters at the right time. Though I could be in for a long wait. I've personally drawn the line at Xplan pricing + $2500 in incentives for a loaded up XLT SCab 4x2. If incentives are better than that, great, but I will go in when those conditions are met. I felt it was important to decide on a floor so I wasn't just waiting indefinitely for increasingly greener grass.

Any good dealer is going to give you all of that info up front, no strong arming needed. If they aren't then they are playing games to line pockets and you continue your search. No dealer pays invoice, if they are telling you that they are liars. They typically pay 3-6%+ below invoice for the vehicle depending on brand. Some are less, some are much more...not including any additional kick backs the dealer gets for meeting sales numbers.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like and I can give you my salesman that worked with us when we were looking to order a 2016. They told me up front the price and sent me a copy of the order price including invoice - rebates/incentives, etc.. If they don't know them at the time, they will include that in writing.

Just to give you an estimate (without pulling up actual amounts it would look like this for the options I wanted)...

MSRP $53,200
X-plan $49,260
Invoice $47,825
Hold back $1,800

Brings price to $46,025
Subtract any incentives from that...

Bonus cash $1,000
Rebate $750
Military/College grad discount $500, etc.


So for me it was a truck that sticker-ed for $53,200 and I would have purchased it for $44,275.

All I can tell people is SHOP AROUND, it is worth it. Buy a $100-200 plane ticket one way and drive the truck home to save $2k, 3k, or in this case almost $9k on a 2016 F150. If it's a 2015 when the rebates peaked you could have saved around $13k+ BELOW MSRP.
