Real world payload

For the life of me I can not figure out why the HDPP/MTTP is not a more popular option, by my math it cost about the same as a Pan Sunroof. It might be the dealers reluctance to carry them, in all Ontario there is only 2 dealers which have them in stock, and of course the limited models it is available on.
a) dealers presumably make more money with higher-trim trucks (which rules out HDPP)
b) Ford's CAFE numbers get adversely affected if HDPP reaches a high enough market penetration level
So Ford structures the packages and options to discourage HDPP unless you really need it and know exactly what you want, because otherwise, who wouldn't be willing to spend a little more cash for a lot more payload headroom?

Just guessing, but

Ford really wants to the limit the HDPP to work trucks. The profit margin on trucks is very good across the trims, but it must be fantastic on Limiteds. Ford kind of blew it with the Canadian Lariat 500a, while not available with the XLT 302a, you can get HD with the base Lariat, which comes with a number of goodies not on the American 500a. The only option I wanted from the upper Lariat trims was the heated steering wheel (Oh how I wanted the heated steering wheel!) and perhaps the LED lights.

I'm taken with some of the smaller 5th wheels being built now. More space that is easier to tow in a package the same footprint.I ran into a fellow at a campground about a month ago and was impressed with the fifth wheel he had. My concern is the 1300# trailer weight given by two I may be interested in. If my payload would come in near 2000#, which I think it might, I'm probably good. It's me and the dog a cooler of drinks, leashes and a water bowl in the cab. With a fifth wheel I would probably remove the tailgate. I'm just weighing my options. I can always go to a bigger conventional trailer too. In the end though I need a truck that is every day driveable. I've learned at 63, a 3/4 ton is not an option.

1300# is a dry tongue weight. What will it be loaded?
How much will your 5th wheel hitch weigh?
Might you ever have someone else going with you? ever? Really?
What is the weight of the options that you will spec on the truck?
For example, my HDPP has a yellow sticker payload of 2399 due to a few options - that's down from 2670 in the ford literature.
Find the truck you want to buy with the options you want and check the yellow sticker.
Even if you don't need the extra payload legally, you might be money ahead to get the HDPP. Otherwise you may wind of changing the tires prematurely, modifying the suspension front and rear. Adding sway bars. etc. Just really do your homework, as I think you might end up closer to the edge than you think.
BTW - I do like that Reflection 150. Best of luck!

Gain 80lbs of payload the easy way while towing. Remove the trucks spare and place spare in/on the RV.
It helps even more if the spare is placed behind the trailer axles.
I do this while towing. So my HDPP payload yellow sticker says 2,523 and after 80lb spare is removed my paload is now 2,603lbs. 🤠

I fully intend to remove my running boards after lowering. Back seat will come out day one. Don't count spare removal because that will be where my aux tank goes.
