Real life comparison of 3.5EB vs V8
#11
Since the they make roughly the same HP but the EB makes about 90ftlb MORE torque, I am zero percent surprised.

No arguments here the 3.5EB is better than a 5.0 at towing, especially at altitude, but something is wrong with his truck. I've towed plenty of times and never had my 5.0 drop 15 mph with cruise control. Sure it'll downshift and start screaming RPMs, but never drop 15 mph. It shouldn't drop that much unless you're on the Ike Gauntlet.
Just out of curiosity:
1) What is the real world length and weight of your trailer? (my wife would love an Airstream lol)
2) Was his truck an under 2017 or 2018?
I have a 2017 5.0 but I only tow about 4500lbs loaded so just trying to get a bit of a comparison for what weights people seem to be at when the difference between 3.5 and 5.0 are more noticed. At 4500lbs I have driven both with no noticeable difference but those are pretty small/light trailers.
Thanks

2) I have no idea. The fender badge said F-150 and he said V8.

So we have a real world example of a known higher torque 3.5 turbo towing better at altitude than a naturally aspirated truck of unknown year, diff, and trailer weight. Impressive and most useful comparison.

I think its great. Reaffirms my lack of desire for a NA V8 while I continue to live at 6500'. Apparently everyone else around here agrees since I see very few trucks without an ecoboost badge.

Yea, Ford needs to just stop making the useless 5.0, so nobody accidentally makes the wrong decision in purchasing such garbage

I own an ecoboost. And its a great engine. But I think the biggest factor here is altitude and driver. If you were relatively close to sea level and the guy with the 5.0 were willing to leave his foot on the floor and let the 5.0 rev like it was designed to do. I don't think there would be that much of a difference. Not 10-15 mph worth.
