Rattling or clunking from rear
#11
Mine is very clearly a suspension/rear end noise, or at least coming from that area. I'll mess with it this weekend and report back any relevant info.

2015 SCrew 4x4 17Kmi Helwig ICON2.5s
Had Fox 2.0s, then swapped in ICON 2.5s.
I have the "dreaded knock" too. I first noticed it after I installed the ICONs about 4 months ago. I can't say whether it's them for sure because when I had the Foxes installed I didn't do any washboard or dirt roads, which makes the noise more noticeable. It seems to be getting worse over time.
I'm on vacation as I type this. I'm in ME. I do most of my dirt roads here and was psyched to try out my $4K suspension(which ROCKS! BTW), but I'm constantly distracted by this new noise, so I decided to research it.
............Symptoms.................
So here's what mine is doing. When I go over any pothole(or series of) or washboard I hear a kinda morse code from the right rear. Pretty much one tap/clunk for each bump. I road in the bed and it still sounds like right rear, but FEELS like center, as in the spare tire. The noise is not rotational. It sounds like something rattling around back there. It coincides with whatever bumps I drive over. The more bumps, the more taps. Sometimes it gets going so fast(like when I'm on washboard) I can't believe it could be from the shock(s). I can't image those units oscillating at that rate(like "rolling your tongue on the roof of your mouth" fast).
I don't notice it much on the highway at speed or smooth surfaces.
I cannot reproduce it by "rocking" the truck side to side. I can hear it when I get someone to stand and jump in the bed. From underneath, I can't tell where it's coming from. Where ever I am, it seems to be somewhere else.
My best GUESS is the spare tire, going by my senses.
My LOGIC tells me it's a shock(which would be disappointing).
.......What I'm gonna do..........
I already did a once over and shook the exhaust. Nutting obvious found.
I'll prolly pull the spare and see if that's it. HOW COOL would that be?!
I have the Helwig. It seems tight and doesn't rattle when I bang on it. It rides less than an inch from the exhaust, which I will investigate. I can also disconnect it easily enough and try that too.
I'm running the ICONs, but can reinstall the Foxes or OEMs and test it out.
There's another thread in the 2015- area, but I'm not convinced they have the same thing or are all talking about the same issue.
As I said, I'm on vaca and don't want to be laying under the truck for the whole time.

Pulled the spare today. It's NOT that.
Also, I posted some info on the spare you may find interesting(especially if you new to trucks.
Disconnected the Helwig. Not that.
Disconnected the shocks. Looks like the pass side upper mount bolt was Loose? Not sure. I removed the lower bolt and the top felt sloppy. The driver side unit pivots, but is not sloppy. Removed the unit and it looks OK. Gonna reassemble and see.

I was too busy this weekend with other stuff to swap my OEM rear shocks back on.
I did get under my truck and shook the spare; it does not seem to be loose or rattling, but when I did that I did get a strange noise coming from somewhere in the fender well (?) in the right rear. I have no idea yet what it could be, but the more I drive, the more it seems related to "The Noise."
Tomjv, I am almost convinced that you and I have the same noise. I also have Icon rear shocks, so anything you discover with the shocks, please report!
I'll keep looking, too, as time permits. I've had my truck for a month and a half and it seems like I've been in the garage screwing with it almost every night after my kid is in bed. My wife is starting to wonder, I think...

No. My rear is still making noise, but I've been using free time to work on other mods, haha. I still need to swap my stock shocks back on and see. I plan on doing that soon and then possibly heading to the dealer if it doesn't improve. I will update here.

I find it hard to believe its the shocks since guys with foxes are having a similar or same issue. i checked hardware for anything loose but no luck. I read the thread with leaf spring issue so im going to try some grease this weekend to see if that's the issue. thanks for the quick reply

It seems like everyone on this thread having issues have changed their shocks. It seems like it must be a loose bolt. If a bolt is just a little loose, the shock will make a noise.
Edit: As soon as I posted this, 2quik posted his message stating he has stock shocks so there goes that theory.
