Raptor SCAB leaf springs
 

I'm about to pick up a set of SCAB leafs for a raptor off Tasca. Anyone know why the part numbers changed mid way through 2018? The price difference for the two models is pretty substantial

I have been searching for the same info and got bitched out by a guy at tasca for even suggesting there were two different part numbers. Pretty sure he didn't know anything about the part number difference and wouldn't even look it up to see that his info was not what I was seeing on the website. The ford dealers don't seem to know what the JL vs KL means either.

I did measure a new 2019 crew cab and it's springs are 61" eye to eye in a straight line. The center of the axle is 32.5" from the rear eye at the leaf/shackle bolt. Exact same as a 2018 Raptor scab and my 2018 F150 SCAB XLT.

One thing I did notice is that the 2018 scab raptor I measured, had a clamp and roller behind the axle that is attached to the overload spring. I can't find this part or see it in any parts print out for either any raptor or any F150. I've attached a pic of this roller clamp. Didn't notice for sure if the 2019 crew raptor had it, but I think it did.

Hoping to find some take off's in the next few months and will check back if I find anything new out.

I'm also doing a raptor scab swaybar with 2.5 dsc coilovers and shocks to radically soften up the suspension for the low speed stuff I do most often.

Out of curiosity, what is the value in changing to the Raptor springs? Does that make for a softer, more comfortable ride? Does that affect towing and hauling capacity (I would assume it would?)

The springs may be part of the equation that drops the raptor to a lower max (8000, I believe). Suspension throw and dampening are also part of the equation. The only real way to know would be to find out what the springs are rated to carry.

I mean that doesn't explain the cost going from $180 to over $300 for the newer part number. I'm assuming the change maybe have to do with the new live fox springs but the crew cabs didn't change part numbers.

The hope (for me at least) is a softer spring. I have E- rated tires on 20" wheels which ride rough so I'd like to get the softest spring possible. I have air bags on the rear so I'm not worried about towing. I just want a soft unloaded ride. I'd rather find used take offs locally but I haven't been able to find any.

The 12th gen SCabs had softer rear springs (3500 Vs 3800/3850/4050), on a shorter wheelbase (133" Vs 145"), with a heavier front end base curb weight (3406 Vs 3126-3231) and heavier rear base curb weight (2600 Vs 2204-2333). SCrew was similar, 3700 Vs 3850 rear springs, 3541 Vs 3184/3214 front weight, and 2659 Vs 2361/2363 rear weight. But those were 12th gens.

Info comes from the 2011 Body Builders Layout Book. The F150 does not appear to be included in the 13th gen books.

As for the price difference... the change to the springs could have included a non-standard thickness spring plate, or at least one that is not normally stocked by whomever produces springs for Ford.

I think I have the Raptor leaf spring part numbers sorted finally. The Gen 2's after June 2018 are the same for both SCAB and SCREW which is KL3Z-5560-A. Tasca mistakenly shows them as HL3Z. Before June 2018 the SCABS used that JL3Z-5560-A spring, but no one knows what they look like or their configuration.

I tried to order those JL3Z's from them. Used my paypal which they gladly took and received payment for directly out of my business bank account. The next day they flagged it as a fraudulent transaction after having my money. Refunded my payment back to paypal and wanted me to sign over my first born in paperwork and wire transfer the money in order to ship the order. Hahahahahaha

I don't need to punt on those that bad to see if they'll work. I'll let someone else be the guinny pig :)

I'll just wait to find some Raptor take offs in the classifieds.

This is exactly what I'm after too. Bilstein 5100's in the rear didnt really do anything for me, now im looking into swapping out the rear leafs.
