Default Questions about maintenance in the owners manual

Hi All,

I have a 2018 2.7 ecoboost and have a couple of questions about the maintenance suggested in the owner's manual.

It says to check the "air filter restriction gauge" and "fuel and water" separator. I don't know what those are...anybody know what they are?

Edit: Another question, do Ecoboost's have fuel filter's that require regular maintenance?

Usually on Diesels. That may only apply to the 3.0PS.

Air Restriction Gauge is usually a little thermometer looking device on the inlet downstream of the air filter housing. It has a yellow and red zone and locks at the highest vacuum it sees. This tells you when the filter needs changing.

Fuel / Water seperator is used on Diesels to avoid the tip getting blown off the injectors when water flashes to steam when it's injected into the chamber.

That said it's possible the 2.7 has these but I haven't heard of it.

Pretty sure these are diesel items only.

Correct.

Pay attention to headings in your manual, and skip any that aren't the 2.7.

Thanks. Though the owner's manual isn't exactly "tailored" shall we say. The questions above are not labeled as engine specific.

Pretty sure they all have a filter on the fuel pump in the tank. Last time I had a Ford with an in-line filter was a 2000 F250.

Ok, so if it's in the tank its obviously not a "regular maintenance" item.

Actually, they are. Those items are listed under Diesel...
