Damn, I was bumming about the second set of center caps etching. I haven't seen any peeling on the rims yet. What a joke this is happening to the wheels.

Well by the looks of that guys Rims you can tell they were chipped from being mounted on & off the rims due to it being on the edge. Also it really depends on how there being cleaned & cared for. I have only used mild soap & water on my PVD rims then windex and I’ll usually do light coat of wax and they still look great 3 years now! If you drive on a heavy gravel road all the time I don’t know if they would stay that way though.. I would only trust the dealer to mount or remove the tires from OEM stock or custom Rims! Even then I take photos date/time before hand and after in case there’s any issues with damage to the Rims!

True, I've used a tire shop here on Cape Cod for over 30 years to mounts all my new wheels. I'm going to blame the road salt and other crap that comes out of the sanders for the center caps etching.

Thought my truck was immune to the peeling flaking on the rims, 2 years and 4 months old and only 50,000 kms (31k mi) on the truck and all 4 are peeling. Had Ford rotate them today then washed the truck and noticed it right away...

And for those who say they are from mounting and dismounting tires your wrong. Haven’t had rims worked on since new duratracs at 10k kms (6k mi)

I had read about this happening when I bought the truck, so I never once used any chemicals or abrasives. Just water and spitshine!

Brought the truck in, dealer took photos, and I’m now waiting to hear back. Very disappointed in these wheels. Shouldn’t be happening after only 2.5 years.

I toured around the the dealer lot and noticed many older F-150s with the same issue. Leading me to believe Fords PVD coating is cheap.

Hey ABF150Fan, those tires are not stock (E load, LT tires), are they? Then it can very well be from mounting and dismounting. I'm not saying the PVD coating isn't crap, but that mounting definitely had something to do with both the OPs and your truck's wheel peeling issues. It's pretty obvious to me too. And that's why I don't plan to change my tires during warranty, and only clean the wheels with water and a microfiber rag. They never looked that shiny since new, so maybe the dealer used something harsh to clean the truck initially, but at least they're not peeling. Hope they stay that way. And will take pictures of all 4 wheels before changing the tires... if I still own it when it's needed. I like the original Dynapro ATMs.

no they are not stock. They have been fine since mounting 25k miles ago. Im thinking the pvd coating is just failing. If they were from mounting new rubber id imagine it would have occurred much sooner after mounting.

I bought a 2016 back in March, same rims and same issue. I didn't care for the wheels much anyway and thought my truck had too much chrome. So I picked up a different set of Ford 20" wheels off Craigslist and swapped over my brand new Michelins. Was able to sell the crappy chipped chrome wheels for $100 less than I paid for the replacements.

Mine started peeling with the original Hankooks. No mounting here. I also have separate mounted winters, so they never saw salt. Unfortunately I was past 60km warranty when they really started. Complete garbage pvd coating is. Wife's aftermarket pvd rims did the same after a couple years - American Racing brand.

I had the same problem with my 20" PVDs. I just took mine in last week. I am still in warranty and the dealer gave me new wheels without argument. Apparently, if you have any unrelated rim damage, it is more difficult to get approved by Ford.
